Job Profile:


There is a temporary opening for the above position within the Planning Services Division of the Community Development Department available immediately.


What you will be doing:

Under the direction of the Manager of Policy Planning:

  • Supports projects including zoning bylaw, secondary plans, official plan update and special policy projects as required.
  • May include heritage studies or other policy related initiatives, such as analysis of planning act changes or green building requirements.
  • Makes presentations to the Committee of Council and at neighborhood meetings on policy projects.
  • Responds to enquiries regarding policy implications as required.
  • Designs and undertakes studies to develop and implement urban design guidelines and policies, particularly to facilitate infill or redevelopment projects in the Core or change of use areas. Drafts policies for inclusion in the Official Plan, attends public meetings, neighborhood meetings and prepares reports to Council recommending appropriate policies.
  • Participates in technical coordinating committees, task forces, and stakeholder and special study teams as assigned.
  • Provides professional planning opinions for above duties.

Education:

Undergraduate Level - Four years or equivalent in Urban Design, Planning or Landscape Architecture.


Experience and Knowledge:


  • Two to four years related Planning experience.
  • Current memberships in the Canadian Institute of Planning and the Ontario Professional Planning Institute or eligible for full.
  • For a degree in Landscape Architecture, current memberships with the Ontario Association of Architects and Ontario Association of Landscape Architects is required.

Skills that you will rely on:

  • Microsoft Suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Working knowledge in Geographic Information Systems
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Proven report writing, oral communication and presentation skills

  • Proof of your current and valid certificate(s) and/or educational qualifications.
Valid G driver's license.
Worker Health and Safety Awareness Training Certificate from the Ministry of Labour


Your compensation:

The position is within Grade 11 of the inside workers union Salary Schedule and has an annual salary range of $83,441 - $88, rates).


Location of position:

This position is located at Cambridge City Hall, 50 Dickson Street, Cambridge.


Hours of work:

The current regular hours of work are in accordance with the collective agreement, however currently are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 pm. (35 hours per week), Monday to Friday, with occasional evenings as required.
