The
Trade, Investment and Food Safety (TIFS) Division expands and diversifies Alberta's food and bioproduct manufacturing sector in local and global markets while also providing effective food safety assurance systems.
The
Export and Investment Branch focuses on attracting investment to Alberta's agri-processing sectors and expanding export opportunities for Alberta's businesses.
The Branch also designs and delivers Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership funding and other programs related to growth and value-added development and provides performance measurement and program evaluation services for the Division.
The
Investment Attraction and Evaluation Section consists of three units: the Bio-Industrial Investment Attraction Unit, the Food Processing Investment Attraction Unit and the Monitoring and Evaluation Unit.
The
Food Processing Investment Attraction team consists of six Senior Investment Attraction officers and collaborates with the Bio Industrials Investment Attraction team's two Senior Investment Attraction officers.
The team also works closely with our seven agriculture-dedicated staff in the Alberta International Offices in Beijing, Seoul, Tokyo, Singapore, Mexico City, Minneapolis and Düsseldorf.
Together the team takes a collaborative approach to increasing investment in Alberta.Role Responsibilities:
Alberta's government sees agriculture as a key economic driver for growth in Alberta.
The agri-food sector is an important part of the Alberta economy, contributing $8.1 billion in gross domestic product and employing approximately 58,000 Albertans.
To successfully grow the agri-food industry in Alberta, it is necessary to create and promote Alberta as a stable, creditable and profitable location for value added agriculture investors.
From April 2019 to March 2023, Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation (AGI) facilitated $2.1 billion in agri-food sector investments related to 332 projects that will lead to the creation of 4,132 jobs.
Reporting to the Investment Attraction and Evaluation Director, the Investment Attraction Manager leads an investor-focused approach to increase investment in Alberta's value-added agriculture sector.
The Investment Attraction Manager leads a team of six Senior Investment Attraction officers focused on attracting investment into Alberta's agri-food industry.
Key performance metrics for the team are the amount of new investment brought to Alberta and the number of new jobs created in the value-added agriculture sector.
The Investment Attraction manager will be responsible to:
1. Build and lead a high-performing team.
- Streamline administrative policies to reduce internal bureaucracy.
- Cultivate a diverse and inclusive workplace that values different perspectives.
- Provide constructive feedback and growth opportunities to staff.
- Manage budgets and uphold government policies and procedures.
- Actively contribute to branch leadership discussions and planning.
2. Provide consistent, high-quality service to investors.
- Manage services for valueadded agriculture investors including:
- information on the advantages of doing business in Alberta,
- site selection support,
- permitting support,
- support on incorporating in Alberta,
- access to talent,
- immigration support,
- pathfinding for regulatory compliance solutions,
- access to utilities and transportation corridors, and
- access to grants and research and development support.
- Ensure staff have access to necessary tools, resources and information.
- Track and report progress towards outcomes, highlighting potential issues.
- Continually enhance client services and introduce new programs and policies.
- Foster strong relationships within Alberta's investment attraction ecosystem.

3. Promote Alberta as an ideal location for agri-food investment.
- Lead a team that identifies and pursues potential investors, both domestically and internationally, that are a strategic fit for Alberta.
- Develop and update promotional materials and messaging.
- Identify opportunities to showcase Alberta to potential investors.
- Collaborate with other investment attraction organizations to amplify messages.
