Job Summary:

The primary function of the Grocery & Produce Department Supervisor is to provide overall day-to-day operational functionality of the Department in support and the absence of the Grocery & Produce Manager.

The supervisor's main priority is to oversee operations on and off the sales floor through the delegation and maintenance of staff responsibilities, and ensuring a clean and comfortable store environment and a high level of customer service.

Responsibilities:

At the discretion of and/or under the direction of the Grocery & Produce Manager duties may include, but are not limited to:

Supervising and participating in, prioritizing and delegating tasks to ensure correct departmental receiving and organizing of orders, labeling, rotating and processing stock, storage, cleaning and waste removal.
Oversees department staff supervision, scheduling, task delegation, stock movement, equipment function and departmental cleanliness as per departmental and store policies and procedures.
Makes observations and documents daytoday running of the department and confers with the Department Manager on a regular basis regarding the state of the department.
Coordinates the neat and orderly flow of grocery and produce stock from receiving and the back store room onto the shelves on the sales floor, pulling and rotating product according to expiry dates and changing labels, merchandise items appropriately, inventory management and ordering
Offers prompt and courteous customer service, fields customer complaints, solves customer conflicts, and proactively determines customer needs.
Creates a positive environment amongst department employees, motivates staff to take responsibility and to make decisions based on experience.
Assists the cashiers on the tills when there is a high volume of customers.
Maintains consistent communication with Community Engagement Manager on all matters as they relate to organic compliance (e.g. changes in supplier, new products, changes in cleaners, etc.)
Understanding and adhering to all policies & procedures with regard to operations, organic compliance, and the Occupational Health & Safety Act for all tasks.
May participate in training and performance evaluations of employees, or be allowed a disciplinary role as per Big Carrot policy, at the discretion of the department or store manager
Works cooperatively and with a supportive attitude, taking initiative to identify and resolve problems to help find a solution; communicates any issues with the Manager and fellow employees effectively and positively.
All other responsibilities related to organic compliance including training that are recommended by the Community Engagement Manager with the support of the Operations Manager and/or Store Manager
Any other jobrelated tasks as required by the Grocery & Produce Manager.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

Strong work ethic, shows initiative and the motivation to complete work assignments
Cash handling and Manager on Duty experience
License to operate a lift truck/pallet jack an asset
Ability to move loads of 35+ lbs.
High school diploma
1+ years retail, grocery or produce, natural food industry and/or customer service experience required
1+ years supervisory experience preferred
