About Us:


The Faculty of Health Sciences is a large, diverse, and comprehensive unit, comprised of six Schools (Nursing, Kinesiology, Health Studies, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Communication Sciences and Disorders), a large Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences and four Research Centres.

The Faculty has more than 3,200 undergraduate students and more than 800 graduate students (200 PhD students).

The Arthur Labatt Family School of Nursing generates knowledge and prepares nurses to be transformative leaders and innovators through equity-promoting research, education and practice, locally and globally.


Responsibilities:


The Simulation/Laboratory Coordinator will act as a point person for health and safety issues, conduct inspections to ensure safe laboratory practices are employed, and assist in the resolution of issues that arise in the facilities including troubleshooting and repairing minor technical problems with equipment and coordinating repairs through the preferred vendors as required.

The Simulation/Laboratory Coordinator will directly supervise full-time and part-time Technical Specialists, manage the student volunteer program, and oversee Standardized Patients in the simulation and laboratory facilities.


Qualifications:


Education:


  • Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences, Computer Systems/ Information Technology, or a related field
  • Master's degree in Health Sciences, Computer Systems/ Information Technology, or a related field preferred

Experience:


  • 3 years experience leading support services for technical device/equipment, computer hardware and software
  • 3 years experience of direct supervision of staff
  • Previous experience in leading technical support services in an education or health care environment is preferred
  • Previous experience leading teams in a unionized health or education environment preferred
  • Experience working with faculty members related to design and delivery of educational programs in Health Sciences is preferred
  • Experience working in interdisciplinary teams of faculty and nonacademic partners preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Familiarity with preventative maintenance techniques and practices for highvalue equipment
  • Excellent troubleshooting ability along with handson expertise in technical support
  • Demonstrated ability to research/investigate issues and resolve problems
  • Knowledge of general laboratory procedures
  • Ability to provide guidance on the proper and safe use of materials and equipment and to adhere to legislated safety requirements and Western safety policies
  • Communication skills to describe technical concepts effectively to both novice and sophisticated users
  • Ability to write clear, concise and accurate procedural documentation
  • Ability to process information with high levels of accuracy
  • Ability and willingness to stay abreast of technological developments
  • Strong attention to detail and proofreading abilities with an excellent command of the English language
  • Ability to work in a fluid and challenging work environment with changing deadlines
  • Ability to work in a fastpaced environment, meet tight deadlines and adapt to growth and change
  • Ability to multitask and maintain an organized and effective personal work environment
