Job Summary

The Custodian performs basic janitorial, maintenance and repair duties for the Program facility such as unplugging sinks and toilets, filling small holes in walls / ceilings, touching up paint, checking oil and fluid levels, and replacing tap washers, light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, and door handles.

Also cleans external areas and cleans, washes, and disinfects building areas. Assists program staff with preparing rooms for new tenants, including pest control. Performs basic security duties such as patrolling buildings and grounds. Also interacts with and takes direction from the Operations Manager or designate as needed.

Hours: 75 bi weekly


Schedule:
Saturday-Wednesday, 8:00am-4:00pm, includes a 30-minute unpaid meal break

Pursuant to the Provincial Health Officer's Order, the incumbent of this position is required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

We will only consider applicants who are fully vaccinated, or who have received an exemption from the Provincial Health Office.

Program Summary
Opening August 2021, Foxglove is RainCity's first housing project in Surrey.

Located at 9810 Foxglove Drive in Surrey, BC, Foxglove will provide 100 units of single room occupancy (SRO) housing (76 transitional housing units and 24 assisted living units) to low-income individuals 19 years of age or older who live in the community, have a history of homelessness and who need additional support services to maintain housing.

The project also includes an additional 30 shelter beds as low-barrier housing for individuals in the immediate community who may be actively using substances and or experiencing mental health challenges.

The supported housing and shelter programs will be staffed by a combination of support workers, including an Indigenous Cultural Support Worker and a Peer Services Support Worker.

The Assisted Living floor will also be staffed by a (RN/RPN) nursing position working alongside a team of support workers.

The support workers oversee the front desk, assist with program area upkeep, managing guests and providing community supports. The building also has cook, custodial, home support and facilities management staff. The building will be operated with a minimum of three staff on duty 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with core operating funding provided by BC Housing and Fraser Health Authority

QUALIFICATIONS
Many forms of education and experience are valued, including volunteering and lived experience of mental illness / addiction/ homelessness; Minimum education and experience includes:

  • Grade 1
  • Certificate in First Aid
  • Building Service Worker Certificate
  • Recent, related experience of 1 year
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

  • Demonstrates understanding of oppression and marginalization as related to homeless individuals.
