About the role


The Purchasing Manager oversees all direct and indirect purchasing for all plants, leads supplier planning, distribution centers and transportation process, systems, controls and relationships to ensure all inbound components and outbound finished goods flows for global locations.

They are responsible the management and leadership of the staff in charge of purchasing, customs & logistics and our DC relationships internationally.

They are accountable for achieving safety stock targets inbound that fill production plans on time, establishing distribution and transportation strategy for both components and finished goods flows of Baylis' distribution worldwide.


Your responsibilities will include:


  • Works with suppliers around the globe to understand assembly and finished good manufacturing processes,
  • Set and implement global Supply of raw materials and distribution strategy for finished goods to ensure purchasing and supply planning are supporting the needs of production plans, service fulfilment and product development in a costeffective and efficient manner.
  • Oversee and improve Purchasing ERP system, Product flow and Distribution processes for inventory and consult cycle counting for both raw materials and finished goods through control boards and KPIs.
  • Identify cost reduction opportunities and take action to achieve cost reductions or improve cost effectiveness. Negotiate volume/supply contracts with component suppliers to obtain cost savings
  • Take a lead role in complex negotiations with Suppliers and Distribution relationships. Participate in the supplier management program. Work with suppliers to mitigate supply risks, reduce costs and improve terms
  • Identify, set, monitor and present monthly KPIs related to purchasing, supply planning, distribution and transportation.
  • Lead global purchasing and logistics team

People leadership responsibilities include:

  • Monitor and manage performance by setting and regularly reviewing individual goals.
  • Conduct reviews of staff to provide positive and constructive feedback.
  • Identify learning and development needs.
  • Ensure adequate employee staffing to support the longterm business plan. Hire and train new team members.
  • Champion adherence to safety, quality and regulatory requirements; work in conjunction with the quality department to support compliance to quality system, resolution of quality issues, audits and CAPA program.
  • Responsible for planning, implementation and effectiveness of significant supply chain process improvement projects.
  • Support product transfer activities from R&D into manufacturing through participation and resource deployment.
  • Adhere to and promote the adherence to all Corporate, Quality and Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Champion effective employee relations and communications.
  • Other duties as required.

Required qualifications:


  • University education in business, science, engineering or equivalent.
  • 7+ years of related work experience.
  • Direct people management experience with evidence of strong coaching and leadership skills.
  • Knowledgeable concerning materials management, purchasing, planning and scheduling, ERP, and general production principles.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in project management.
  • Experience leading complex negotiations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to deal effectively with people at all levels
  • Strong analytical skills, a high attention to detail and good planning skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office including Advanced MS Excel
  • Experience working with ERP systems

Preferred qualifications:


  • Certification in Supply Chain Management.
  • Prior experience in the medical devices industry is considered a strong asset.
  • Excellent communication and project management skills
  • Good understanding of statistical methods, six sigma methodologies, and problemsolving methodologies
  • Multitasks, prioritizes, and meets deadlines promptly with great attention to detail
  • Knowledge of BSC products and processes
