The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the University of British Columbia's (UBC) student society, and works to improve the academic, social and personal lives of the 56,000 UBC students at its Vancouver campus.

The AMS also runs nine food and beverage outlets, a catering and conference operation, and the AMS Student Nest, providing on-campus employment opportunities and generating revenue that goes directly back into supporting the students at UBC.


Position Title:
Programming and Events Lead


Reports to:
Programming and Events Manager
Supervises AMS Events Associates and Volunteers.


Employee Status:
Full-time, salaried, with benefits


Hours: 37.5 hours per week (occasionally on weekends and late nights)


Salary Range:
$48, $52,000.00 per annum.


Position Purpose:


The AMS of UBC is currently looking for a motivated, creative and organized person to fill the role of Programming & Events Lead.

This role works closely with the Programming and Events Manager to help ensure the proper planning and execution of events for the AMS.

This is a great opportunity for someone interested in developing a positive student culture on the UBC campus.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Oversee and support the daytoday duties of the Event Coordinators.
  • Planning, producing and executing events with the help of other teammates.
  • Scheduling event team members for the various events.
  • Work closely with the Social Media Coordinator and Volunteer Coordinator to ensure appropriate coverage.
  • Manage event registration, attendee lists, and postevent surveys.
  • Oversee onsite event execution.
  • Participation in weekly team meetings.
  • Assist in the development of an annual Events Plan for the department.
  • Assist with the building and maintaining of relationships with campus partners, suppliers, sponsors, vendors, and artists.
  • Stay on top of trends and changing interests of students to help the department deliver appropriate and relevant events.
  • Ensure events are respectful to, and representative of, the diverse interests of UBC students.
  • Provide excellent customer service through the establishment of a responsive, respectful, and positive environment.
  • Working at the AMS Music Festivals (these events occur twice a year)
  • Other duties as assigned by the manager

Qualifications and Experience:


  • Must have a bachelor's degree in related field, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends on occasion
  • Willingness to work long hours on occasion
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and produce results within a fastpaced work environment
  • Proven interest in the planning and organization of events and/or programs for groups of various size and demographic
  • Experience with sales or marketing efforts
  • Positive attitude and customer service oriented
  • Knowledge of diverse musical genres and interest on campus.
  • Knowledge of computer software including MS Office and Wordpress.
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud is an asset.
