Job Description:

As a Catering Assistant, you'll ensure that all conference catering, including attendee and crew meals, are served as ordered.

You'll supervise the set up of each meal, verifying that all spaces have the food, beverages and supplies specified in the event order and that dietary information is visible and accurate.

You'll monitor service flow, communicate supply levels to banquet captains, track food and alcohol consumption rates, and act as a point person for attendee requests and kitchen updates.

You'll also support food and beverage experiences throughout the conference space as needed, ensuring that health and sanitation regulations and TED COVID-19 protocols are adhered to at all times.

You're energetic and detail-oriented, with a strong work ethic. You have prior food and beverage or catering experience and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. You're proactive and resourceful, able to remain calm and discreet when solving problems.

You're a critical thinker, able to address time sensitive challenges calmly and strategically, communicating any changes to the appropriate contact in a timely and informative manner.

You follow instruction well and are comfortable working under mínimal supervision.

This is a labour intensive position, and involves walking and standing for long periods of time, and participation in physical work and lifting up to 50 lbs.


Responsibilities:


  • Oversee the setup of all meals, including signage and printed menus
  • Ensure all items are as ordered, all required utensils and flatware are available, setup is operational and all food is labeled with the correct dietaries indicated
  • Use event orders to oversee each meal; manage service flow and track consumption
  • Ensure health/sanitation regulations and TED's COVID19 safety measures are adhered to at all times
  • Act as a key point person for banquet + service staff
  • Manage time effectively, working with the TED team to prioritize and complete tasks, delegating where appropriate
  • Work with the TED Food and Beverage team and external partners and stakeholders to support the success of all programs

Qualifications:


  • Previous experience in a food and beverage or catering role is required
  • Experience leading a food and beverage program is an asset
  • Foodsafe Level 1 is an asset
  • Able to work well under little supervision, with excellent time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proactive and resourceful
  • Critical thinking and problemsolving skills
  • Organized and detailoriented
  • Calm, kind and discreet
  • Fluent in English
  • Able to walk and stand for long periods, and participate in physical work and heavy lifting of up to 50 lbs
