We are looking for a Research Council Officer to support our Energy, Mining and Environment (EME) Research Centre. The Research Council Officer would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.


As a national leader in battery performance testing and operational optimization, the EME team experimentally assesses and improves the operation of electrochemical energy storage systems, testing their operational boundaries under controlled environments, in extensive purpose-built facilities.

You will be working closely with client driven research and develop opportunities for technology transfer.

As a newer graduate, you will grow into being the technical lead and team liaison, providing expert advice and innovation support to NRC clients on energy storage related issues such as power/thermal management, safety, and optimal operating conditions to provide successful operation and integration into a larger system.

Screening Criteria:


Education:

PhD in chemistry, physics, engineering or related field.

Experience:


  • Basic* experience in a research field.
  • Basic* experience with scientific or engineering principles.
  • Basic experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience and demonstration of successful proposal writing, data production and analysis, and detailed client reporting through written documentation, presentations and publishing.

Assets:


  • Experience in design, testing and performance evaluation of batteries and their related electronic systems will be considered an asset.
  • Experience with battery management systems (BMS), digital communications and software programming would be considered an asset. Experience operating and maintaining infrared cameras would be an asset.
  • Basic experience means at least three (3) years.

Condition of Employment:


  • Secret (II)
  • Must be able to travel.
  • Must be able to work in environments where chemical and smoke dust are common.

  • Solid knowledge in electrical principles, systems and battery operation.
  • Solid understanding of material science and electrical principles.
  • Solid knowledge of experimental designs and problem solving.
  • Solid knowledge of report writing and publications.
  • Basic knowledge of battery system design, testing and evaluation (safety and performance); electrical system integration and evaluation.
  • Basic experience in electrochemistry and applied testing techniques as well as Battery management system development.
  • Ability to complete industrial R&D projects by planning, scheduling and performing experiments to meet client requirements.
  • Solid understanding of heat and mass transfer fundamentals.
