HR (Human Resources) Manager


Reports to:
Director of People & Culture


Status:
Permanent Full-time


Schedule: 8:30am-4:30pm, Monday - Friday (75 hours bi-weekly)


Compensation:
$70,000-$90,000, commensurate with experience

The Human Resources Manager is accountable for overseeing day-to-day aspects of human resource management in the organization and ensuring that the overall administration, coordination, and evaluation of human resource plans and programs are realized.


Primary Objectives:

Participate as a key member of the Management Team by leading the operational execution of day-to-day human resources processes by:

  • Promoting engagement, commitment and motivation of employees by developing, implementing and evaluating innovative strategies to enhance productivity, morale and culture;
  • Creating and executing a workforce plan by identifying current and future talent needs by identifying and shaping the organization's value proposition to build a high quality and engaged workforce.
  • Contributing to the development of HR department goals, objectives, and systems.

Key Responsibilities:


Workforce planning and talent management:

  • Create a workforce plan, with input from the management and executive team by identifying current and future talent needs to support the organization's strategic goals and objectives, contract requirements, short term emergency response projects and new projects, with input from the Executive Team;
- supporting the Directors and Managers on human resource management issues;
- ensuring all human resource practices reflect best practices within the sector, comply with legislative requirements and are operating successfully including selection and recruitment, orientation, retention and engagement, performance management and succession planning;
- creating and maintaining human resource policies and procedures and ensuring compliance with Employment Standards throughout the organization and ensuring timely distribution of updates;
- leading the development and maintenance of job descriptions;
- ensuring training and development plans are in place and implemented successfully;
- fostering and promoting a strong, positive workplace culture and recommending innovative strategies to grow and maintain the culture;
- participating as an active member of the Social Committee, and acting as committee chair as necessary
- overseeing recruitment efforts for all personnel and directly participating in talent acquisition processes as needed;
Overseeing and managing the work of the Human Resources team, including:

  • coaching, leading, and performance managing a team of direct reports including the Human Resource Generalist as well as Payroll & Benefits Coordinator
- developing and monitoring an annual budget that includes Human Resources services, Occupational Health and Safety services, and employee recognition and moral events;
- conducting a continuing study of all Human Resources policies, programs, and practices to keep management informed of new developments;
- participating in executive, management, and staff meetings or attends other meetings and seminars that will support the organization's objectives;
- overseeing performance management system; and


  • Completing special projects as assigned.

Requirements:


Qualifications (minimum Education and Experience requirements):

Education:


  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or equivalent
  • Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP) accreditation (desirable)

Experience:


  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in Human Resources positions including experience in full or partially unionized environments
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting investigations, preferably in a union environment.
  • Experience in a nonprofit organization is desirable

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Specialized training in employment law, compensation, organizational planning, organization development, employee relations, training and facilitation, labour relations, and/or talent acquisition preferred
- exceptional written and oral communication skills
- highly proficient in MS Office programs including Word, Outlook and Excel
- proficient in Acrobat Adobe
