Overview
Sun Life's Physical Security & Crisis Management department is looking for a Travel Risk & Personnel Protection Specialist.

Our department manages a best-in-class corporate physical risk management and asset protection program, safeguarding Sun Life's people and operations worldwide.

Our dynamic group of professionals delivers effective oversight, assessment, consulting, and support services in enterprise physical risk management.

This includes global incident monitoring and crisis response, physical security systems and technology, travel risk, enhanced personnel protection, as well as occupational health & safety.

The role reports to the Manager, Enhanced Personnel Protection.


Role Summary

Accountabilities

  • Oversee event security and compiling threat risk intelligence on geopolitical concerns, security risks such as crime, terrorism, civil unrest, and travel risk to ensure traveler safety.
  • Provide onsite support for high profile events and meetings which may include personnel protection, organizing movements to and from transportation, and supervising security contractors. Some North American and International travel required.
  • Provide relevant and timely situational awareness briefs, and travel briefs in collaboration with our thirdparty security, medical, and travel risk vendors.
  • Analyze metrics, identify trends, and create processes and strategies to address risks or vulnerabilities associated with the trends.
  • Create and maintain risk profiles on high profile members of the organization.
  • Prepare detailed event security risk assessments and security operational plans to support offsite events globally, as part of maintaining and enhancing the Event Security Travel Risk Program.
  • Working with our travel risk vendor to review, create, and maintain our global major location evacuation plans and escalation matrixes.
  • Participate and contribute to industry related threat intelligence roundtables, groups or committee's pertaining to executive protection, travel risk management and event security.
  • Collaborate with the GSOC to coordinate, review, approve and execute global travel risk management reports.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with business leaders to ensure that the quality of services provided meet our objectives.
  • This position may interface directly with external government, security, law enforcement and emergency services officials.

Decision-Making Authority

  • Works in tandem with the Manager, Enhanced Personnel Protection to implement program priorities.
  • Works with the Incident Reporting Centre to implement program priorities.

Education and Experience

  • Degree or diploma in security, investigation, or risk management; or comparable professional education/training in a field relevant to security or investigation management.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with travel risk management and executive protection.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience within a corporate, government security or risk department for a similar organization of comparable size and complexity.
  • Professional designation preferred in security or investigations management, such as Associate Protection Professional, Certified Protection Professional, or Professional Certified Investigator.
  • Knowledge or experience in dealing with third party vendors that deal with, travel and medical risk, political, security and integrity risk is considered an asset.
