Position Summary:

Education in Second Languages :
Professional competencies and final preparation of professional portfolios will be addressed.

Focus is on development as a TESL professional, preparation for the workplace, and analysis, reflection, problem solving and support of actual teaching practice.

Qualifications:

The student MUST be an MA 1 or 2 and a PhD 5 to be eligible for TAship.
Preferably completion of B.Ed, or MA student in Education or related field
Background teaching ESL, or training to teach ESL OR background teaching French as a second language
Has experience working in or is familiar with Educational contexts in Quebec outside of McGill.
As per collective agreement 2.11 A teaching assistant is a Graduate student at the Master's or Doctoral level employed to assist a Course Supervisor as a Teaching Assistant or Demonstrator._

Please note that given the resumption of in-person teaching activities, most courses will be taught in person. Exams may however need to be administered remotely depending, mainly on the size of the class. Teaching Assistants and Course Lecturers will be required to plan accordingly. Should government restrictions prohibit the resumption of in person teaching, courses will revert to remote teaching. In the event of such a change, Teaching Assistants and Course Lecturers will be advised without delay.

Teaching Assistants and COURSE Lecturers may be required to prepare and deliver teaching material suited to a remote/online teaching environment using a virtual learning platform [e.g., Zoom, WebEx] and the McGill myCourses learning management system.

Training and assistance on remote teaching is available through Teaching and Learning Services (TLS). Course Lecturers are encouraged to record their lectures.
