Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the effective implementation of the Safety Management System.
  • Lead by demonstrating the required behaviours, attitudes and mindset to further develop an already strong company safety culture.
  • Develop coaching relationships with Facility Managers, Supervisors and employees focused on helping them define and achieve their safety culture and continuously improve their safety performance through regular site visits, safety meetings, and tailgate attendance.
  • Assist site orientations for all new staff and contractors
  • Plan, organize, schedule and conduct HSMS (Standards and Advisory) as well as COR audits of facilities, work areas and equipment.
  • Perform site inspections as per the Health and Safety schedule, QA/QC Audits to ensure that newly identified risks, hazards, or behaviours are effectively managed.
  • Ensure accident and incident investigations are conducted and events are reported in a timely manner.
  • Assist and coach the Joint Health & Safety Committee members.
  • Support operations and functional management in the achievement of corporate initiatives.
  • Monitor site conditions and behaviours to identify risks and provide input and recommendations to enhance safety performance.
  • Audit required certifications for all site workers during construction phase
  • Communicate any significant issues or concerns with the HSSE Manager for direction.

Qualifications:

  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO), Occupational Health & Safety Certificate or other industry recognized training.
  • Combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Auditor's certification, Standard First Aid w/CPR & Fall Protection would be a definite asset
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in a safetyrelated position in the oil & gas industry.
  • Valid Class 5 License with a "clean" abstract
  • Understanding of remote accommodations in the energy sector is considered an asset.
  • Understanding of Occupational Health & Safety Acts, Regulations and Codes (Alberta) and how it pertains to daily field activities
  • Ability to read and understand relevant documentation pertaining to the successful and safe completion of each project.
  • Proven understanding of the effective management of incidents, and Hazard ID/Near Miss.
  • Familiarity with relevant construction codes, standards, and practices.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Good oral & written communication skills.
  • Must be willing to work on a rotation
