Grand Challenges Canada **(GCC) is seeking an Investment Analyst to play a critical role in supporting the implementation and coordination of Transition to Scale investments in global health.

Through the Transition to Scale program, GCC provides catalytic investment to innovators who have achieved proof of concept and are now seeking to scale their solutions.

GCC provides both grant and non-grant financing, as well as technical support, to best support the growth and impact goals of innovators.

Since 2011, GCC has supported over 230 innovators at Transition to Scale.


Investment Analyst


Under the direction of the Social Finance Manager and working closely with the Investment Associate and Programs Team, the Investment Analyst will work to ensure efficient, high-quality coordination of a range of investment activities for the Transition to Scale portfolio.

The Investment Analyst will support engagement with partners, innovators and contractors at all stages of investment/contract management and reporting (i.e. financial modelling, financial due diligence, negotiation, portfolio management and reporting), mitigate risk and raise issues with Management as necessary.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Evaluate the financial performance of potential grant and Repayable (Debt and Equity) investments
  • Provide financial modelling guidance and support to Innovators and Portfolio/Investment Managers
  • Conduct market research, risk assessments and analysis
  • Support the monitoring, administration, and closeout of existing Repayable investments
  • Support Repayable portfolio performance monitoring.
  • Support the timely and accurate delivery of Repayable investment reports and valuations, including to the Board of Directors.
  • Support process improvements for financial due diligence and Repayable finance reporting.
  • Contribute to knowledge management and translation of project and programmatic data.
  • Coordinate and support the execution of investmentrelated activities including innovator outreach to complete reporting requirements, triaging reports received for approvals, and processing contract amendments.
  • Provide other investment and organizational support as needed, which could include supporting funder information requests, restructuring analyses and valuations of GCC's portfolio of investments.

Qualifications

  • Strong financial modelling skills.
  • Experience in completing financial and commercial due diligence on early stage investment requests.
  • High level of proficiency with spreadsheets, word processing and database software (including but not limited to the Microsoft Office suite).
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problemsolving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work well independently and within a team; experience working crossculturally is an asset.
  • Completion of a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., finance or economics) or recognized equivalent; CFA level I/II designation a bonus.
  • Experience working in a fastpaced working environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to impact; proactive, balancing planning and execution.
