Student Financial Aid supports students in their attainment of educational goals through the provision of financial assistance.


Responsibilities:


The Financial Aid & OSAP Structure Specialist is responsible for the maintenance and management of the Financial Aid module within the PeopleSoft environment as it relates to the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP), ensuring quality of services and completion of short and long-term objectives to meet the University's goals and to enhance the student experience.

The Specialist has primary accountability to administer OSAP for all eligible students on campus and provides policy and procedural advice to the Associate Registrar, Student Financial Services, other Office of the Registrar (OOR) leaders, and the Student Financial Aid team.

The Specialist works collaboratively with the Office of the Registrar Structure Group, the RITS Team, and the Western Information Systems Group to ensure that appropriate controls are in place to manage risks in the various systems that Student Financial Services utilizes including PeopleSoft.

The Specialist will also contribute to the development and implementation of internal systems initiatives designed to address new requirements resulting from changes to OSAP programs, and to analyze data in support of data driven decisions on financial aid strategies.


Qualifications:


  • Education:
  • Undergraduate Degree
  • Undergraduate Degree
in Business, Commerce or Finance, Computer Sciences or other related discipline preferred

  • Experience:
  • 3 years' progressive experience working in PeopleSoft HE
  • 2 years' experience working in a postsecondary student financial or financial aid environment
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft HE Financial Aid module preferred
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Demonstrated data management and database reporting skills preferably with PeopleSoft Higher Education or similar database systems
  • Proven extensive knowledge of OSAP and all other provincial loan program policies
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and PeopleSoft Query; Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word
  • Demonstrated ability to research and investigate issues, and use analysis, innovation and imagination to solve problems and execute solutions
  • Resourcefulness with a strong sense of initiative and accountability
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to conduct cost/benefit analyses
  • Must work well under pressure and use good judgement in assessing difficult situations to align with strategic objectives
  • High degree of professionalism and diplomacy with outstanding ability to work effectively and efficiently with internal and external clients
  • Judgment, analytical and problemsolving skills with a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues and opportunities
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to complete detailed analytics and reports, demonstrating confidence in dealing with all levels of the organization
  • Willingness and ability to stay abreast of technological developments and to highlight opportunities for improvement within the organization
  • Ability to work in a fluid and challenging work environment with changing deadlines and competing priorities in order to meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to adapt to growth and change within the organization or from external partners
  • Exceptional organizational skills with strong attention to detail
  • Familiarity with FIPPA regulations and working knowledge of secure data transfer protocols
  • General knowledge of the Canadian secondary and postsecondary educational systems
  • Ability to learn Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities (MCU) policies and guidelines as they pertain to financial aid
