Position Overview


The experienced Sales and Ocean Freight Planner is an excellent multitasker, professional communicator and has an exceptional attention to detail.

The individual will be self-motivated and committed to continuous improvement.

The role forms the key front-line interface between the Columbia Containers Ltd (and its freight forwarding subsidiary C West Solutions Inc.) and its customers and ocean carriers.


The Sales and Ocean Freight Planner is responsible for: maintaining communication and relations with customers, managing vessel allocations, assisting customers with day-to-day logistics needs, creating efficiencies and streamline communication between the customer service representative team, freight forwarding team and plant operations with the goal of maximizing service levels to our customer base.


Responsibilities

  • Fields customer inquiries, requests and complaints while providing solutions which support the mandate of excellent customer service;
  • Effectively communicate with customers, shippers, vendors and shipping lines;
  • Determining the most efficient and costeffective methods of moving goods with consideration to market conditions, transit times, customer requirements as well as other evolving priorities;
  • Assist with the maintenance and development of customer and shipping line relationships;
  • Provide customer rates for ocean freight and transloading services;
  • Proactively promote rates and services to current and new customers;
  • Issue and monitor railcar terminal authorizations for movement of railcars to site;
  • Identify changing market conditions in order to proactively response to customer needs;
  • Manages customer's daytoday logistics needs; providing timely solutions and updates;
  • Utilize vessel allocation/ equipment to maximize the company's and customers position;
  • Improve customer service levels by proactively monitoring equipment availability, cargo arrival times, vessel movements, production planning while also being responsive to required changes;
  • Collaborating and coordinating with other Company departments with the goal of improved customer service, controlling costs and strengthened teamwork and efficiencies;
  • Generate various weekly and monthly performance reports;
  • Provide guidance and support to members in the freight forwarding department.

Competencies, Experience and Education

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in a freight forwarding or complex logistics environment, preferably at the manager level;
  • An undergraduate degree or college certificate in either logistics/supply chain or business field(s);
  • Sales and/or customer service experience an asset;
  • Full comprehension of English and the ability to communicate clearly and concisely;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Ability to multitask and execute with sound business decisions in a dynamic and fast paced environment;
  • Solid computer skills, including MS Office products;
  • Freight Forwarding certification (i.e. CIFFA) is not required but valued.

Job Types:
Full-time, Permanent


Salary:
$75,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
