As a Dietary Aide at our Adult Day Programs, you will play a vital role in ensuring our clients receive balanced, nutritious, and diverse meals in accordance with best practices set forth by the Canadian Institute of Food Safety.

You will also be responsible for creating monthly menus, managing food budgets, and maintaining food and supply inventory. Your role is integral to promoting a culture of safety, quality care, and continuous improvement in our programs.


Primary Responsibilities:


  • Collaborate with the Team Lead to create menus
  • Collect receipts and manage food budget
  • Order balanced meals following Canada's Food Guide and dietary requirements
  • Maintain a list of client allergies and dietary restrictions
  • Receive and inspect food orders
  • Set up the dining area, including linens, chair covers, place settings, and utensils
  • Prepare food, including coffee/tea, snacks, and main meals
  • Plate food according to IPAC guidelines
  • Adhere to WHMIS guidelines for safe food handling
  • Ensure proper cleaning and sanitation of equipment, utensils, and work areas
  • Assist with postlunch snacks
  • Keep track of client food preferences, allergies, and intolerances
  • Check food before serving to clients
  • Control and minimize food waste

Administrative Tasks:


  • Maintain kitchen inventory of supplies
  • Enforce appropriate procedures
  • Ensure work environment and stations are clean and sanitized
  • Attend other duties as required, such as monthly staff meetings
  • Mentor and provide guidance to volunteers, students, or assisting staff on food handling safety procedures
  • Monitor fridge/freezer temperatures
  • Follow IPAC procedures and Canadian Institute of Food Safety guidelines
  • Complete other activities as required, such as preparation for special events and virtual cooking classes if funded

Performs all other duties as required:

  • Maintain knowledge and enforce appropriate policies and procedures related to quality and health and safety standards
  • Maintain and ensure a safe and orderly work area
  • Ensure program environmental and facility needs are met

EDUCATION, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

  • Experience: 34 years of food service or restaurant experience required
  • Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds
  • Familiarity with general kitchen equipment and appliances
  • Strong working knowledge of food preparation techniques, cooking methods, and safety and sanitization practices

Secondary Education:
Culinary certification or degree from a culinary school preferred

  • Current First AID & CPR Certification is required
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention, and Food Handlers' certificate is preferred
  • Current Vulnerable Sector Police check completed within last 12 months is required
  • Familiarity in the use of Computers, Email, and Internet
  • This position requires you to be fully vaccinated against COVID19 and you must provide Lumacare with proof of vaccination prior to employment
