In accordance with the University of Alberta and Association of the Academic Staff Collective Agreement article 1.39 this position is excluded from the bargaining unit.

This position has an end date of 6/30/2025, with the possibility of extension. This position has a total compensation of $1500 per annum.


Location - This role is in-person at Augustana Camrose.

Position


Reporting to the Manager of Student Life (MSL), the Assistant Coach is responsible in supporting the Head Coach with the operations of the Vikings Nordic Program and growing the recreational Cross Country Skiing community at Augustana.


As a premier member of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference and Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association, and an integral part of the University of Alberta, Vikings Athletics creates a culture of excellence.

To that end, we are seeking a highly qualified assistant coach to join our varsity athletics department and support the Nordic Sports program with a primary focus on recreational skiing.


Duties

  • Support the head coach at practice and/or competition
  • Lead the recreational skiing program in partnership with Augustana's Campus Recreation department (event planning and promotions)
  • Maximize usage of the Dr. Garry and Dorothy Gibson Nordic Ski LIbrary (ski maintenance and cleaning and usage)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Health, Sports Administration or related field
  • Applicable coaching certification or equivalent;
  • A successful background in coaching and or participating in crosscountry skiing;
  • Demonstrated leadership and motivational skills;
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills;
  • A valid Class 5 Alberta driver's license will be required upon appointment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in a related discipline;
  • Demonstrated ability to connect with athletes from youth to the university level;
  • Fundraising experience and skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate and develop community partnerships.
