Overview:
We are recruiting for two GM roles in BC's lower mainland.


Reporting to the market area VP, the General Manager is one of two P&L business leaders who are responsible for the operations of the Lafarge Ready Mix businesses in the lower mainland of BC, including brand and products, marketing, customer relations, sales, personnel, safety, environment, maintenance, purchasing, budget planning and control.


The General Manager will work in a fast-paced, highly dynamic environment to execute the business strategy and provide leadership while maximizing profitability and optimization of resources.

In addition, the General Manager ensures that all products and services that touch the customer meet Lafarge's world class standard, uphold all company commitments, policies and standards; and support a culture that holds health & safety as an overarching value.


Responsibilities:


  • Set long range goals and strategic plans, taking into account market conditions and trends, competitive environment and available resources, in alignment with other P&L leaders for Lafarge RMX businesses in the region.
  • Set financial and operating goals and monitor progress towards achieving these defined targets
  • Actively contributes to our ambitious sustainability goals, both within our business operations and in the products we sell.
  • Drives for continuous business performance improvement while never compromising Lafarge's commitment to providing world class service to the customer. Ensure customer satisfaction with excellent product and service quality
  • Maintains a collaborative relationship with other product lines and same product line counterparts ensuring a synergy which achieves a strategic and competitive edge for Lafarge
  • Provide leadership and vision for the health & safety culture and implement best practices and provide visible personal commitment
  • Operate business with respect to the environment which will require an understanding of local, provincial and federal policies
  • Encourage good relationships between management, employees and the union
  • Develop key personnel and strive to ensure all staff have the support necessary to grow within their positions

Specific Accountabilities:


  • Prepare sales and operating budgets
  • Achieve sales and production objectives
  • Ensure compliance with all laws and company guidelines and policies
  • Ensure that the business add value to customers and gives Lafarge the highest possible returns while maintaining quality and safety
  • Ensure production and quality control staff works effectively together in order to provide a top quality product

Relationships with Others Jobs:


  • Reports to the regional VP
  • Collaborates across the market with other RMX businesses and product lines
  • Works closely with other operations managers, plant managers, and sales force in the assigned market
  • Works in conjunction with support staff (finance, credit, health & safety, environment, and human resource) regularly.
  • Close interaction with Union leaders internally and externally.
  • Close interaction with customers to maintain and build key relationships

Qualifications:

Education:


  • Postsecondary degree, diploma, trade certificate, etc. (required or preferred)
  • Designation, certification (required or preferred)

Experience & Skill Set:


  • Minimum of 10 years of senior management experience
  • Proven team leadership including direct union management experience
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong communication, negotiation and change management skills
  • Good knowledge of concrete industry and working in a unionized environment
  • Ability to foster and grow a strong safety culture
  • High capacity of working under pressure & generating results in a changing environment
  • Proven performance in managing business financial accounts
