The department of Mental Health and Community Wellness is looking for a Tobacco Control Officer to support the Health Promotion and Wellness Branch's Tobacco and Vape Enforcement Program.

Conditions of Employment:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must possess a full class 5 license and have access to a personal vehicle.
- Must be able to travel within Manitoba to carry out the responsibilities of the position, which may include occasional overnight stays.
- Must provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check
- Must provide a current and satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Postsecondary education in justice or social sciences. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
- Experience in law enforcement including: following legal procedures, carrying out enforcement activities, preparing legal documents and supporting prosecution activities
- Experience developing and delivering public communications, presentations, training, education and awareness programs and resources
- Ability to lead and manage difficult, sensitive and contentious situations with diplomacy and tact
- Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Excellent written communication skills
- Effective verbal communication skills to effectively represent the department in both formal and informal settings
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to independently exercise sound reason, judgement and discretion
- Strong organization and time management skills
- Ability to take initiative and work independently with mínimal supervision
Duties:
The Tobacco Control Officer plays a key role in supporting Manitoba's tobacco and vape reduction efforts.
The Tobacco Control Officer is responsible for planning, developing and implementing initiatives to strengthen Manitoba's enforcement program with the focus on education, awareness and relationship building with retailers and other key stakeholders.
In addition, the Tobacco Control Officer coordinates and conducts inspections, investigations, surveillance and enforcement activities related The Smoking and Vapour Products Control Act.
