OVERVIEW


Ridley College is seeking two School Counsellors who will play a proactive role in achieving our community's vision to "inspire flourishing lives.

"

The Counsellors will work to meet both the social and emotional needs of our day and boarding community.

Specifically, these positions will assist students in our Lower, Middle and Upper schools to understand and develop social, emotional, behavioural and learning skills using a strengths-based approach.

Responsibilities will includ

e:
Providing direct counselling to children, adolescents and families addressing social, emotional, behavioural, developmental and learning difficulties using a strengths-based approach, solution-focused or PERMA-V model as part of an integrative tool kit;
Providing direct instruction to students in areas such as: conflict resolution, social skills, emotional management and life skills;
Providing crisis intervention services that support youth following natural disasters, violence, abuse, death or suicide;
Communicating and collaborating with teachers, health centre personnel, learning strategists, residential staff and families as part of a student support team within a school setting;
Working with our residential team to proactively address issues in a boarding school environment;
Collaborating with guidance counsellors as advocates for students wellbeing, and as a resource for their educational and personal advancement;
Leading and designing professional development programs for teachers and residential staff;
Facilitating teacher, residential and parent workshops with respect to wellbeing;
Evaluating and advising school disciplinary practices for troubled students.


Coaching and leading co-curricular activities including: leading a clubs or activity, coaching a sports team, participate in community service initiatives, support students as an Advisor and member of a house duty team.


QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:
A Master's Degree in a counselling-related field (i


e:
Psychology, Social Work, school counselling and/or counselling psychology) is required. A Master's or Bachelor's degree in Education, to complement this experience, would be ideal.


EXPERIENCE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
5 years experience in a counselling role;
Experience teaching is required;
Experience providing school-based counselling services from an evidence-informed practice perspective;
Experience facilitating small group sessions;
Experience in a boarding school environment and positive psychology are preferable but not essential;
Member in good standing with a relevant governing body (OCT, CCPA, CRPO, etc);
Maturity in dealing with and maintaining the confidentiality of student records and information;
Excellent interpersonal skills, exemplary communication, problem-solving, negotiation, and mediation skills;
Commitment to the College's academic and co-curricular directions and the school's vision and mission;
Be enthusiastic, energetic, and able to foster unique learning experiences for students;
Able to thrive in a collaborative, flexible and supportive team environment and

Knowledge of technologies that are consistent with ethical and responsible professional practices.
