Preference will be given to qualified employees within the Full Time Support Staff bargaining unit, Appendix D (in the role for 6 consecutive months) and RPT employees who have passed probation at Mohawk College.

The Skilled Trades & Apprenticeship Engagement Coordinator sustains the growth and advancement of skilled trades and apprenticeship by engaging industry, employers, apprentices & students and ecosystem partners.

The incumbent will leverage the strong reputation of the college to advocate for a leading-edge apprenticeship and trades education facility.

The incumbent will be responsive to student, apprentice and employer needs to facilitate the navigation of the apprenticeship process.


The incumbent will develop mutual relationships with prospective applicants and key influencers, including parents, teachers, guidance counsellors, community agency partners and other College staff.

Influential source to attract prospective applicants to Mohawk College, maximizing enrolment to all college programs and courses, and enhancing Mohawk's position within the community, in keeping with the Strategic, Marketing and Academic plans of the College.

The incumbent has the responsibility to highlight and present the Mohawk experience in a positive way, and their actions impact enrolment numbers, overall brand and reputation of Mohawk College.


What you'll be doing:


Engagement Activities
-
Outreach**: The incumbent will make connections and respond to requests for service delivery to schools, community groups etc., coordination of resources, and delivering standard and customized formats.

Relationship Building: with prospective applicants, and key stakeholders, within their portfolios, the incumbent works to identify needs, to respond to and accommodate requests, to provide resources and superior customer service experiences, that encourages repeat interactions with the college to make Mohawk a sought-after destination.

Multi-Media Presentations: Creating & delivering presentations to promote apprenticeship and skilled trades, in an accurate and interactive way, using PowerPoint, videos and guest speakers, and webinars. These activities require sourcing copy, images, the development of speaking notes, and comprehensive academic program knowledge, and responding to questions during delivery. It is critical that the incumbent deliver the most accurate information, in a timely manner.

Knowledge Transfer/Information Sharing: with prospective applicants and key influencers, informing and clarifying on apprenticeship and skilled trades programs, ministry requirements, providing up-to-date resources and materials.

Event Planning: with a responsibility to initiate, plan and execute traditional and custom events, based on requests by partner sites and identified needs, these require coordination with Academic, Student Services and Corporate areas, and include the coordination of experiential activities for participants with academic staff and faculty. Events may occur online or in-person at Mohawk College and/or other locations.

Coordination of targeted outreach:initiate, engage, organize and plan communication, events and activities for students, industry and stakeholders in support of Mohawk College's commitment to advancing underrepresented groups including but not limited to Women in Technology & Trades (WiTT), Jill of All Trades and other events and promotion.

Flexible Approach: Allow for the ability to coordinate and participate in special, new or one-time activities to respond to community needs or special requests, e.g. Employment Ontario, School College Work Initiatives (SCWI), Open House (on and off site), Community Events and other unique requests.


External Partnerships

Lead and engage in community development activities with apprentices, employers, industry partners and key stakeholders.

  • Conduct and facilitate meetings, projects and initiatives that inform the services and resources.
  • Identifying, investigating and mediating the resolution of program/project issues, complaints and disputes. Identifies and advises organizations/employers related to issues of noncompliance and follows up to ensure resolution of noncompliance issues.
