Position Summary:

Professor Meguid's research team has multiple researcher projects funded by the industry in the area of thermo-hydro-mechanical modeling of geomaterial.

These projects involve significant numerical analysis using advanced modeling techniques.

A Research Associate will be hired to carry out the required analysis related to the behavior of embankments and other ground supported structures under both mechanical and environmental loading conditions.

The Research Associate will perform the following but is not restricted to these tasks:

  • Manage various administrative tasks related to the project, including but not limited to record-keeping, data management, and coordination of research activities
  • Enhance the research's visibility by communicating important findings to peer researchers and stakeholders at key conferences and workshops
  • Assume responsibility for disseminating research findings by preparing technical reports, papers, or articles related to research activities.
  • Lead the analysis and interpretation of intricate thermo-hydro-mechanical-chemical interactions within geomaterials.
  • Innovate and implement new research methods to ensure successful project execution
  • Develop and conduct research projects, protocols, processes, and procedures as delegated by the Research Supervisor

Qualifications:

  • PhD degrees in civil engineering (or, closely related field)
  • Concrete understanding of and demonstrable ability to interpret the coupled thermohydromechanical processes occurring in geomaterials
  • Research experience in coupled thermohydromechanical modeling using PDE solvers such as COMSOL Multiphysics for at least 5 years
  • The ability to model phase changes of water across solid, liquid, and gaseous state in geomaterials is a plus
  • Research experience in characterizing complex stressstrain behaviour of geomaterials by developing novel constitutive models pertinent to the loading conditions of concern (e.g. creep, quasistatic, and dynamic)
  • A track record of research publications in leading reputable journals in Geomechanics
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to communicate research findings effectively in both technical and nontechnical settings.

Other Qualifying Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work independently and also collaboratively with other researchers of various knowledge and skill levels
  • Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an Englishlanguage university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level #3 or above on a scale of 04.
