This opportunity relates to the
ESAP Project, in modernization of the heating and cooling energy distribution systems to over 80 buildings in the National Capital Region.

The ESAP project involves design and construction of four new central heating and cooling plants plus associated distribution piping networks over a period of five years, under a Joint Venture Partnership with another leading major Contractor.

Black and McDonald is responsible for the
design and construction of the mechanical and electrical work across the project.


Located on the designated ESAP project site(s), this position will
manage, supervise, control and provide direction to B&M direct hire trades, subcontractor construction activities and B&M project staff as needed, under the direction of B&M ESAP Distribution Senior Manager.


KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure all site activities are following B&M's Health, Safety & Environmental, and QA/QC programs

Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate assigned work, ensuring all necessary resources and materials are in-place to successfully execute the requirements according to schedule, specifications and budgets.

  • Assists with the daytoday organization, coordination and general oversite of both B&M direct hire construction trades and subcontractors' workday.
  • Act as the main point of contact for coordination with all related civil works by our JV partner (PCL)
  • Provide oversite & input to the development of project schedule and risk, scope and project execution methodology plans.
  • Look ahead of future work ensuring required resources, tools, and materials are organized and ready when required.
  • Communicate project status, including any anticipated issues and cost or schedule variances to relevant project team members as required.
  • Monitor cost, productivity, and schedule performance.
  • Report significant issues to senior management promptly

Provide leadership to Trade Foremen:

  • Completion of monthly safety site inspections and task observations
  • Oversee design coordination related to RFI's, SI's and shop drawings
  • Maintain a Harassment free workplace
  • Work with senior management to
    address any scope gaps, disputes or extra work to be resolved with JV partner
  • Ensure safe working conditions are observed and enforced.
  • Ensures and any direct reporting staff/trades are trained and qualified.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree or diploma in construction management or engineering and/or trade qualification or equivalent field experience
  • 10+ years' experience in the construction industry, preferably in site
    MEP construction:

  • Experience in piping and trenching projects is considered a strong asset
  • Strong leadership, organization, communication, and analytical skills
  • Ability to obtain
    Federal Secret security clearance:
  • May be required to
    work extended hours, late evenings, weekends, and holidays with little to no advanced notice to meet client expectations.
  • Capable to work with challenging clients.

  • Approximately 12 direct reports (e.g., Field Technician)
  • Approximately 1020 indirect reports (e.g., subcontractors, union staff, etc)
