Research Coordinator:


This position is within the College of Nursing, where researchers are working hard to create equitable and sustainable solutions to improve health experiences and outcomes for individuals, families, and communities provincially, nationally, and internationally.

This position will be part of the Nursing Unit for Research and Scholarship Excellence (NURSE).

Your general location of work will be in research assistant office space in the Health Sciences building at the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon campus.


Primary Purpose:


Under the direction of the Associate Dean Research and Graduate Studies, the Research Coordinator will provide post-award support to College of Nursing faculty.

The Research Coordinator works daily with principal investigators (PIs) in the College to support the successful implementation and ongoing management of research activities and projects undertaken by college faculty holding research funds.


Nature of Work:


The College of Nursing is the largest non-departmentalized college at the University of Saskatchewan with several locations across the province.

This position will be based at the University of Saskatchewan Saskatoon campus and reports to the Associate Dean Research and Graduate Studies.

Occasional travel throughout the province may be required.


Typical Duties or Accountabilities:


The primary responsibilities of the Research Coordinator will be to work with principal investigators and their research teams to coordinate research activities including any or all of the following; assist in project planning and logistics; support research-related hires; enhance communications linkages and opportunities (i.e., opportunities to showcase research); ensure that pre-established scope of work, study protocols, and regulatory requirements are followed; and, serve as a principal administrative liaison for research projects developing and maintaining recordkeeping systems and procedures.

The Research Coordinator will be able to work effectively, both independently and as a team member, and the ability to exercise discretionary decision-making is essential.

The Research Coordinator will work closely with research staff within the College and University. Work occurs in an environment where there is continuous change and growth, shifting and competing priorities, and frequent interruptions. The ability to foster a work atmosphere that is positive, supportive, responsive, and transparent is needed. This individual requires initiative, discretion, self-direction, and motivation to execute assigned tasks in a timely manner. A high level of independence, flexibility, responsibility, and accountability are necessary. Decisions will range from minor (e.g. report development, locating supplies) to some that are more major (e.g. fund management, coordinating research support staff).

  • Research Project Management:
  • Participate and organize project team meetings.
  • Assist with project and data management plans (use of Gantt Charts, Trello etc)
  • Advise and facilitate the staffing of research studies within the proposed project budgets and timelines.
  • Optimize smooth and efficient daytoday operation of research activities.
  • Proofread researchrelated materials such a manuscripts, surveys or other data collection tools or presentations.
  • Assist in the creation of presentations, posters, manuscripts and/or other formats of dissemination of research findings.
  • Research Financial and Resource Management
  • Monitor the progress of research activities; prepare periodic and ad hoc reports (be comfortable using FAST and/or Crystal Reports)
  • Submit new hire position, honorarium requests, concur claims etc.
  • Work with the Nursing Finance team with regarding researchrelated purchases
  • Work with RASI regarding fund release details; assist with early fund release process as needed.
  • Work with NURSE to strengthen a positive and vibrant discovery culture within the College of Nursing by supporting further exploration and advancement.
  • Attend and participate in Lunch and Learns, Research Support Staff meetings, Research Communication meetings, facilitator forum and other researchrelated events
  • Create documents, programs and other research support tools
  • Participate in research strategy sessions
  • Be a champion for EDI within the research environment

Education:

A bachelor's degree in health science or related field, although preference will be given to applicants who hold a Master's degree.

Project management certification or training preferred.


Experience:
Three years' experience with research support (fund management, support for grant writing, managing databases, research coordination).

Previous program management experience; experience conducting qualitative and quantitative health research; and experience working in a health-related field considered an asset.
