Current Rate of Pay:
Min $26.88- Max $ 27.68


Current Shifts: 8 hours, All Shifts


Position Summary:


The Bed Allocator navigates a complex work environment with shifting priorities and tight timelines and acts as a liaison between admitting and receiving parties.

The Bed Allocator assigns beds according to the established and agreed upon clinical criteria and priorities, and collaborates with the Flow Coordinator, Infection Control, Directors, Resource /Charge Nurse and/or community partners to assist in placement of patients.

Using a variety of computer processes, the Bed Allocator performs a wide range of clerical functions that are essential to the efficient flow of patients throughout Guelph General Hospital.

Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Abilities:


  • Medical Office Administration Program certificate and/or recent related experience
  • Demonstrated experience working with Meditech Order Entry
  • 12 years recent Bed Allocation or Patient Registration
  • Meditech Order Entry and Criticall experience preferred
  • Intermediate computer skills with 55 wpm keyboarding
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Medical Terminology, completion of the course would be an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work collaboratively with all members of the health care team and the ability to manage difficult conversations with resiliency, professionalism and respect
  • Demonstrated organizational, time management and record keeping skills, with strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, with the proven ability to adjust priorities based on new information and changing situations
  • Proven ability to facilitate meetings
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a selfdirected manner as well as collaboratively within a team in a fastpaced, high stress and everchanging environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service when interacting with patients, families, colleagues and physicians
