  • Reporting to the Executive Director, Safety, Privacy and Risk Management, the Manager, Safety & Security provides leadership in planning, developing and overseeing the College's safety and security programs. This includes organizing, directing and coordinating the activities of campus security operations, which includes contracted patrol and security services, crime prevention programs, investigations, communications, technology, reports and administration. The Manager develops and maintains security programming that contributes to the quality and excellence of the College through the protection of life, property and the preservation of peace and good order on College campuses.
  • The Manager also leads the development and implementation of a comprehensive Worker Safety program and oversees Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) and ensures the College meets its compliance obligations under the Occupational Health & Safety Regulations and the Workers Compensation Act for British Columbia.
  • The work may involve situations requiring response outside of the normal workday timeframe, and the Manager is required to be on call, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in case of emergency.
    Job Duties/Responsibilities

Strategic and Operational Planning

  • Participates as a representative of the departmental team in College-wide activities, providing input to the development of Safety, Security, and Occupational Health and Safety strategies and sharing responsibility for achievements and success.- 2. Recommends, develops and implements security and occupational health and safety strategies, plans, and policies in consultation with the Executive Director. Establishes a framework of security practices, standards, and processes. Drives out strategic security, occupational health and safety initiatives that align to and support the achievement of the department and College's strategic goals and objectives. And acts as a strategic advisor on multiple committees and teams.

  • 3. Works collaboratively with other department members to support a strategic, integrated approach to all program planning, development and delivery. Fosters a collaborative and supportive team approach for their portfolio and with other departments of Safety, Security, and Risk Management. 4. Provides strategic advice to the Executive Director and other senior leaders on the College's most critical security matters. Delivers reports and presentations on security program issues, achievements and status of key initiatives. 5. Monitors security program practices to ensure compliance with international, federal, and provincial regulations as well as the College's security/risk policies. Implements the necessary planning, due diligence, and quality controls to identify and mitigate security/risks to the College. 6. Provides direction to the development and delivery of security programs, contract security services, security systems and technology (intrusion alarms, computer protection, card access, closecircuit television), crime prevention, loss prevention, keying programs, and all other aspects of security. Directs audits and assessments to ensure program optimization in all reporting areas. 7. Oversees investigation and/or assessment of serious incidents, hostile/threatening situations, and other matters of a highly sensitive nature. Implements comprehensive processes for identifying and interviewing witnesses, victims, suspects and others to gather evidence; developing investigation and evidentiary reports to support internal and external stakeholders, authorities, law enforcement, and crown prosecutors in internal hearings and/or civil or criminal proceedings. 9. Participates as a key member of the Emergency Operations Centre and the College's critical incident response to traumatic events as designated by the Executive Director.
