Current Rate of Pay:
Min $ Max $23.32


Current Shifts: 12 hours, Days, evenings and nights, rotating shifts


Position Summary:

The Nursing Support Assistant (NSA) role is a member of the interdisciplinary care team at GGH.

Working closely with the Nursing and PSW staff, the NSA role provides additional support to patients with special needs who may benefit from a higher level of supervision or who require extra attention to keep them free of risk.


This unregulated care provider provides support by assisting some aspects of patient care which may include meal assistance, mobilization (including turning and positioning), call bell response, close observation, redirection, therapeutic activities, safety checks and documenting as required.

Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Abilities:


  • High school diploma or equivalence
  • Demonstrated knowledge of WHMIS, Emergency Codes and Privacy Legislation
  • Completion or willingness to complete the Smart Moves Program and BCLS
  • Experience working in a busy hospital environment and with following universal precautions
  • Experience in working with older populations, patients with dementia and/or mental health
  • Completion or willingness to complete Gentle Persuasive Approaches and Crisis Prevention Management courses
  • Demonstrated ability to work and exercise judgement independently, as well as to take direction and work collaboratively within a team in a fastpaced and everchanging environment
  • Physically capable of maneuvering and pushing stretchers with patients
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service when interacting with patients, families, colleagues and physicians
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Suite
  • Working knowledge of Meditech an asset
