Reporting to the Director of Finance the bookkeeper will assist in the day to day operations of accounting department.
Working alongside the Director of Finance and the accounting team to ensure the full cycle accounting is completed on a timely and accurate basis.
Duties include the following:
- Prepare and/or review appropriate ledger entries and reconciliations; review AR/ AP listings and G/L.
- Review the posted and processed payment for accounts payables, expense reports, client disbursements and credit cards payments.
- Manage G/L on several bank accounts and sub accounts (i.e. general, disbursement trust).
- Prepare financial statements on a regular basis.
- Manage HST/GST/PST/EHT government filings, NSF cheques, returned items, direct deposits, service charges etc., tax account and payments.
- Manage Trust Account G/L reconciliations and annual Trust Report.
- Maintain accurate record keeping for Drawing account and provide to payroll for processing.
- Review and verify the processed bank deposits and receipts, and issue refunds for overpayments.
- Accurate and timely filing and retention of financial records and documents.
- Remit Law Society Trust Account fees and Professional Liability Insurance
- Evaluate cash flow, cost controls and expenses for decision making purposes.
- Assist with the yearend audit as required.
- Assist with various special projects and accounting department initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Post Secondary Education in Accounting, CPA designation or in process.
- Minimum 5 years experience in fullcycle general accounting; experience in Law firm Accounting is essential.
- MS Office (Excel) and knowledge of accounting software (Elite Enterprise is highly desired although we are transitioning to 3E).
- Strong computer technical skills.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Confident and dependable, with strong work ethics and initiative.
