Summary of Duties
The PAA is responsible for the co-ordination of patient flow and patient activities; administrative services for the new Complex Malignant Hematology outpatient unit; and maintenance of patient records, staffing, scheduling, payroll, and administrative support to patient care unit.
As an integral part of the health care team and front-line staff, responsibilities include:
- Coordinating electronic physician orders with applicable software;
- Scheduling return to clinic appointments, internal/external consults, tests and procedures required by the oncologists;
- Responding to general enquiries; Preparing patient charts;
- Booking appointments; Ordering supplies;
- Providing relief coverage and support services within the department.
Qualifications/Skills
- One year of Community College required.
- Medical Terminology course preferred.
- Must achieve successful completion of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre's PAA training within specified timeframe.
- Proficiency with MS Office computer skills (Word and Outlook) required; with working knowledge of inhouse patient software packages (e.g. OASIS, Excelicare, etc.) preferred
- One year of Administrative/Business experience required; in a health care setting preferred.
- Demonstrated effective Person-Centred Care/Customer Service behaviour.
- Proven accurate keyboarding skills at 40 net w.p.m. OR data entry at 106 net keystrokes per minute.
- Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and followthrough effectively, working at a fast pace unpredictable environment that requires the ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Excellent problemsolving, interpersonal and communication skills: oral, written and comprehension.
- Tact and diplomacy in handling and dealing with confidential information Demonstrated ability to work effectively in an interprofessional team environment.
- Proven ability to work with sensitivity and compassion with oncology patient population and their family/support people
