    Situation:

    Nature and Scope:

    The Manager, Volunteer Resources provides a pivotal role in strengthening the staff volunteer partnership and the volunteers meaningful involvement in the YMCA. The Manager, Volunteer Resources is responsible and accountable for developing, implementing, managing and evaluating Volunteer Resources and Programs; collaborating with Managers, Staff, and programs to provide support to a variety of program and service initiatives; fosters and promotes a spirit of community involvement through volunteerism by building and maintaining relationships with various community service groups and organizations and by actively encouraging and recruiting community volunteer participation to meet the established strategic plans and organizational initiatives and objectives. The role provides support to staff working with volunteers and manages the ongoing development and implementation of a Volunteering Program at YMCA BC. The Manager, Volunteer Resources will work with staff across the association to plan and implement volunteer recognition programs, and support coordination of training and onboarding.

    Major Responsibilities:

  • Works to support a framework and plan for collaboration with all Association staff in planning, developing, executing and evaluating a volunteer development plan; works with the program teams across the association to realize the Association Plan with respect to volunteerism.
  • Works with others to develop strategies for program volunteer recruiting and placement. Works with supervisors to determine current needs for program volunteers. Establishes consistent onboarding process for all volunteers.
  • Supports increasing awareness of best practices across the Association; maintains knowledge of current trends and research regarding volunteer engagement to continuously improve practices within YMCA BC, participates in ongoing professional development to increase understanding and skills with respect to the principles and practices of volunteerism.
  • Educate staff regarding compliance of YMCA volunteers as per Association policies, ensuring volunteers have received required training and are compliant to policies including those that address the protection of children and vulnerable persons.
  • Actively raise the profile of volunteering at YMCA BC internally and externally.
  • Develops, implements, manages and evaluates Volunteer Resources program policies, procedures and standards of service for volunteers; ensures consistency with regional and community objectives, operational standards and established standards of practice and accreditation bodies.
  • Works in conjunction with the GM Fund Development to Develops the annual operating budget for the Volunteer Resources program; monitors activities and ensures expenditures are within approved budget; identifies efficiencies and promotes optimal use of resources, making recommendations for current and future program and resource adjustments.
  • Coordinates marketing of volunteer opportunities and determines best recruiting avenues to reach diverse groups. Makes presentations to outside groups regarding the benefits of volunteering at and for the YMCA. Develops and maintains relationships with community recruiting sources such as local high schools and colleges.
  • Maintains volunteer files. Ensures tracking and reporting of volunteer hours. Generates volunteer reports monthly and end of year summary as part of the Annual reporting process.
  • Coordinates program volunteer development and recognition program(s).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications/Experience:

  • University Degree preferred or completion of college diploma, preferably in a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience working with volunteers and personal volunteer experience
  • Minimum of 2 years working with group volunteers, corporate volunteers
  • Significant understanding and appreciation of YMCA core programs and history/operations of YMCA, knowledge of Association Services programs preferred.
  • A demonstrated understanding of volunteer management issues.
  • Proven ability to independently develop plans, set priorities, and achieve results
  • Demonstrated participation in professional courses related to philanthropy and volunteerism.
  • A capacity to work within a team and be a part of a large multi-service, charitable Association.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers.
  • Exceptional written, listening and oral communication skills;
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Power Point), Internet, Google Mail and a volunteer management software an asset.
  • Ability to organize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously with close attention to detail and prioritization to meet deadlines.
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Records Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date
