Job Summary


The main role of the Instructional Design Support (IDS) is to support the development, maintenance and production of training documentation in accordance with the appropriate specifications of Technology Training Standards and Best Practices.

They ensure that all training documentation is accurate, appropriately organized and presented in a clear, concise and consistent format. The position involves extensive technical writing to ensure the timely publication of courseware, including digital formats.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Collaborates with, prepares for and conducts interviews with the technical and educational Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to obtain information / clarification on relevant courseware content materials.
  • Copyedits and rewrites training documents and material to achieve accuracy, proper grammar, clarity, readability, composition and conformity with departmental and company style and language.
  • Provides advice and expertise on editorial matters to clients and translation services.
  • Implements, monitors and reports quality assurance and testing criteria / results of training products for content, consistency, detail, applicability and visual presentation.
  • Collaborates with graphic artists and SMEs to adhere to design specifications.
  • Recommends and implements documentation standards and publishing best practices, including deployment and distribution methods.
  • Develops, organizes and maintains an electronic document library, which includes standardized templates, courseware, and historical documents.
  • Prepares, posts, and maintains information on the SharePoint site.
  • Assists in the research and analysis of internal / external eLearning training environments, conducts needs analysis initiatives, writes / rewrites, edits and ensures quality control on the content and relevancy of a variety of ATS Learning materials (print, web, tablet, computerbased training) for program and departmental managers, to ensure delivery of effective training products.
  • Assists in external environmental research and analysis to identify emerging ATS Learning, eLearning, and multimedia issues, trends, technological advancements and / or other issues pertinent to the program.
  • Liaisons with external organizations to probe for information exchange.

Requirements:


Education:


  • Graduation with a degree from a recognized university with specialization in a related field of study or a combination of education (such as a college certificate in a related field of study) and work experience.

Experience:


  • Experience analyzing student learning needs and developing training materials.
  • Experience writing and editing documentation for adults.
  • Experience with template standardization, updating documents, and management of training and development resources.
  • Experience in a training or learning and development environment with knowledge of adult learning strategies will be considered an asset.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of current adult education theories.
  • Knowledge of theories, principles and practices associated with communications; of research and data analysis methods/techniques; and of project planning techniques.
  • Knowledge of theories, principles and practices associated with communications, including writing, editing, publishing, multimedia product planning, development, evaluation and quality control; of information technology methods, of research and data analysis methods/techniques; and of project planning techniques.
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of editing and publishing.
  • Knowledge of MS365 and desktop design / publishing software.

Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills, including grammar, spelling and composition.
  • Demonstrated ability to convert complex technical information into clear, concise, plain language.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities; work under mínimal supervision; work in a team (both in person and virtually) and individual settings; and handle multiple concurrent tasks.
  • Ability to establish rapport and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues.
  • Ability to recognize patterns, organize ideas and visualize end products.
