Support Staff Full-time Appendix D Contract Position (March 2- June 15, 2024)


The Logistics & Maintenance Technician performs semi-skilled work in the area of installations, maintenance, repair and general upkeep of buildings, equipment and facilities, including seasonal exterior work and Logistics & Facilities support services functions at the Doon campus.


Responsibilities:


  • Receives incoming shipments and arranges cost effective shipping
  • Unloads and handles internal delivery of items; completing documents as required by standard College procedures
  • Interacts with Purchasing, Accounts Payable, college staff, and vendors to solve discrepancies and maintain a high level of customer service and satisfaction
  • Collects and distributes mail or shipments to other College buildings and campuses
  • Maintains work areas to ensure maximum use of resources available (i.e., space, equipment)
  • Assembles and/or builds cupboards, bookcases, and shelving and installation
  • Installs and repairs locks on doors, cupboards, filing cabinets and desks
  • Installs notice boards, whiteboards and signage as directed
  • Performs minor painting, adjusting, and maintaining door hardware (i.e., tightens striker plates, and adjusts speed of closers, lubricates hinges and locks)
  • Completes minor plumbing repairs
  • Responds to various maintenance call and work requests
  • Completes repairs to drywall, masonry walls, and ceilings
  • Moves furniture and event materials, up to and including complete assembly of modular furniture and event set ups
  • Completes required academic space set up to ensure delivery of programs in all common academic areas following appropriate codes and legislation
  • Operates and maintains grass cutting and snow removal equipment
  • Keeps walkways clear of snow and salted as required in preparation for campus traffic
  • Inspects and documents inspections and repairs to equipment including fire extinguishers as required
  • Supports weed control programs within guidelines, prunes trees, and shrubs
  • Repairs minor asphalt and concrete cracks and holes
  • Cleans interior and exterior of fleet vehicles, as well as ensuring vehicles are fuelled and ready to be used by team members
  • Provides temporary backup or assistance and support to various facilities functions including but not limited to convocation, shipping and receiving, snow removal, grounds maintenance, equipment repairs, exterior and interior signs, assist with emergencies (within Facilities Management), assist trades/Contractors, etc

Qualifications:


  • High School Diploma or GED is required
  • Minimum two years of practical experience in the maintenance and repair of building contents and equipment
  • Proficient reading, writing and mathematic skills
  • Specialized technical skills, such as locksmithing would be considered an asset
  • Good organizational skills
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with clients
  • Valid Class G Ontario driver's license, eligible for Conestoga insured driver status
