Description

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:


Troubleshoot and perform all electrical repairs to high volume production equipment
***1) Repairs and performs preventative maintenance correctly to ensure tools are organized properly and safety and product safety and quality are not affected.

2) Systematically diagnoses faults in electrical and electronic systems and equipment. Repairs/or replaces electrical and electronic components as required.

3) Assists mechanics in making repairs to production equipment and performs mechanical repairs as assigned.

4) Uses various electrical test equipment including yoltmeters; ammeters; multi-meters; megger and oscilloscopes.

5) Sets replacement parts or repaired equipment back to production ready condition or recommends substitute parts if original parts are not available.

6) Modifies machine electrics as directed and performs lay outs, assembles, installs, repairs, maintains, connects or tests electrical fixtures, apparatus, control equipment and wiring for industrial electrical systems.


Perform preventative maintenance
7) Maintains equipment by performing regular preventative maintenance inspections and monitors equipment for possible problems or breakdowns.

8) Notifies the Supervisor of any problem areas and recommends solutions to ongoing problems.


Miscellaneous
9) Responds to Supervisor/or Lead Hand's requests to inspect machinery/or instruct on use and is able to differentiate between process and electrical problems.

10) Performs repairs to outside plant service equipment as required.

11) Makes pre and post installation recommendations on equipment to Supervisor.

12) Develops a parts list of all items to be purchased for small to medium sized projects, as assigned and complies with the parts inventory control systems.

13) Maintains records of his/her work by issuing and closing work orders in CMMS.

14) Performs other duties as assigned.


Housekeeping
15) Maintains a clean and organized work area and reports any deficiencies to the Supervisor.


Health and Safety
16) Adheres to the Safety Rules, Regulations and Programs of the Company and Government Legislation so that a safe environment is maintained.

17) Reports all accidents, unsafe conditions or near misses to the Supervisor

***In the incumbent's absence these responsibilities will be transferred to another Electrical Technician.


SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have experience with programmable logic controllers (PLC'S).

Must have mechanical background knowledge.

Must have a strong knowledge in basic sensors: pressure transmitters, flow transmitters, limit switches and proximity switches.

Must be able to read and understand electrical schematics and blue prints.

Must be available for overtime or call-ins as required.

Must be able to service production equipment.

Must be able to make solid decisions under pressure.

Must have the knowledge and know how to operate all safety equipment.


Must be trained in and follow company policies on GMP, sanitation, pre-requisite programs, chemical control and food safety plans and policies.

Must have strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to communicate effectively with co-workers and others within the organization.

Must be self-motivated.


EXPERIENCE:

5-10 years industrial experience in a manufacturing environment.


EDUCATION:

Must hold an Industrial Electrician's License (valid in the Province of Ontario)


WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

The Electrical Technician spends most of his/her time in either a machine shop or production environment.


The production environment and the machine shop include exposure to noise, temperature fluctuations and risk of injury from working with and around moving equipment.

Employees are required to wear proper PPE including safety glasses, safety shoes, fall arrest equipment, welding PPE, electrical gloves, arc flash and hearing protection, as required.


PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:

The Electrical Technician performs most work in standing, crouching or bent positions. The Electrical Technician also experiences awkward positions to access equipment. There is frequent opportunity to move around. There is regular walking, standing, bending and lifting up to 50 lbs. There is exposure to legally permissible levels of dusts, fumes and gases. Incumbents may be required to work on rotating shifts.

DEGREE OF SUPERVISION REQUIRED:

***The Electrical Technician receives close supervision with standard instructions and regular checks on performance.
