In association with The Toronto East Quadrant Local Immigration Partnership (TEQ LIP), a program that supports the development of local partnerships and community-based planning for the needs of newcomers by utilizing Local Immigration Partnerships (LIPs).

The Coordinator, LIP reporting to the Manager, Employment Services, Scarborough, plays an integral role in coordinating program components - tracking and reporting information, virtual platforms, and outcomes for the LIP Program.

This position provides support to the team and liaises with the Manager to help them achieve and/or exceed all program targets and outcomes.

This is a non-unionized position.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Work productively with the team of LIP staff in order to collectively accomplish the goals of the TEQ LIP Project
  • Deliver project activities as assigned including building partnerships, newcomer resident engagement and work in Expansion Neighborhoods
  • Build relationships with residents, neighborhood leadership, service providers and other stakeholders in Scarborough
  • Assist with development and implementation of Scarborough Settlement Strategy, work plan and related activities. Employment and economic development focus will be considered an asset
  • Facilitate Action Groups to ensure objectives are met, including the development of work plans and implementation of activities
  • Lead and facilitate the Scarborough Newcomer Council, including member engagement, meeting and action planning and capacitybuilding
  • Assist with organizing and implementing TEQ LIP events and workshops
  • Assist with implementation of a communication strategy to ensure project activities and related information is clearly communicated among partners and to the community
  • Assist in development and maintenance of project website, newsletter and other communication materials
  • Identify possible areas of resources and action, assist with project evaluation and provide recommendations for improvement
  • Assist the LIP Manager to ensure project activities are delivered in accordance with the project policies and guidelines
  • Prepare and submit monthly statistics and progress reports
  • Other duties as assigned, including staff supervision, support of site activities, evening supervisor shift rotation, and support of other managers/activities, as required

Qualifications:

An organized self-starter with experience and/or education in the following areas:

  • Social Work degree from a recognized institution or equivalent training in Human Services field
  • Minimum 5 years in frontline community work experience with newcomer populations
  • Demonstrated ability and experience to build and maintain service partnerships with service providers both in the settlement sector and among nonsettlement community agencies
  • Sensitivity and awareness of culturally, racially, economically and socially diverse communities, especially issues affecting newcomers
  • Extensive knowledge of community issues, resources and services in Scarborough
  • Knowledge, understanding and sensitivity to issues and policies affecting immigrant and refugee communities
  • Excellent leadership, communication, planning, interpersonal, facilitation and time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work productively in an MS Office environment and experience with online meeting tools
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; fluency in a second language relevant to the project is an asset. Demonstrated crosscultural communication skills with participants, agencies and the public
  • Ability to work flexible hours which include evenings and weekends
  • This position requires extensive travel within Toronto. Possession of a valid Ontario Driver's License and use of a car is an asset
  • Aligned with other LIP consortium partners, the working title for this position will be LIP Officer
