Job Description:
A part time temporary position is available to teach a portion of FMST Perspectives on Family Studies.
This is a first-year course designed to introduce students to the definitions, concepts, experiences, dynamics, and theories of family through an interdisciplinary approach.
A part time temporary position to teach a portion of FMST Perspectives on Family Studies.This is a first-year course designed to introduce students to the definitions, concepts, experiences, dynamics, and theories of family through an interdisciplinary approach.
This course will guide students to more specialized Family Studies core courses:History of the Family, Sociology and the Family, Psychology of the Family and Women Studies and the Family.
It is a team-taught course so applicants should be able to co-operate with other instructors in the development of curriculum and the major assignment, the integration of lectures, and team marking of exams and the assignment.
- It is desirable that applicants have either expertise in research on the Psychology of the Family with particular attention to marriage and change, Systems Theory and experience in teaching courses on the Psychology of the Family; or expertise in research in the History of Canadian Families and experience in teaching courses on the History of Families in a Canadian context which pays particular attention to diverse families, indigenous families in colonial contexts, knowledge of intersections with gender, race, class and indigeneity._
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree PhD in a relevant field is required (e.g., Psychology or History).
- Demonstrated postsecondary teaching experience related to the course content.
- Willing and able to teach in a team environment.
- Available to teach Wed from 14:3016:20 in class
- Experience using teaching technology to post some content online.
- Knowledge of intersections with gender, race, class and indigeneity.
Length of appointment:
September 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024 (a successful applicant newly appointed as an instructional faculty member of the Langara Faculty Association may be appointed as of August for the purpose of course preparation).
This is a temporary, part time position at 1/16 of full-time for one, single semester to provide coverage for a leave.
