Brief Overview:


The Métis Nation-Saskatchewan Ministry of Culture, Heritage and Language is seeking a strong team player, committed to quality service to carry out objectives of the Department of Culture, Heritage, and Language and to provide a range of services as a Language Revitalization Specialist.

This position reports to the Manager of Culture, Heritage, and Language and is based at the Métis Nation-Saskatchewan office in Saskatoon, SK.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Create and facilitate the development, revision, implementation and continuous updating and improvement of Michif focused educational resources.
  • Work closely with all departments within Métis Nation-Saskatchewan in the creation of resources.
  • Create engagement sessions to promote and educate on how to use the resources Métis Nation-Saskatchewan is creating.
  • Review and evaluate the effectiveness of Métis language and cultural content inclusion in all fields of education (Pre-Kindergarten to Post-Secondary).
  • Collaboratively work with the Culture and Language Coordinator to inventory and manage all resources.
  • Assist in the preparation and teaching of Michif language learning.
  • Identify gaps in resources as it relates to Métis language, history, and culture.
  • In consultation with the Manager, Culture and Language, and other key program stakeholders, develop an annual resource development plan.
  • Research to find appropriate resources to improve the quality of Métis culture content for all students in Early Years to Post-Secondary classrooms and learning environments.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders (e.g., Ministry of Education, educational partners, etc.) to recommend potential solutions to consider for addressing any gaps in language curricula and resources.
  • Promote, track, and measure compliance with program funding requirements by creating and implementing appropriate data collection, reporting, and/or recordkeeping processes.
  • Work with our Early Learning Language school teams to create Michif resources.
  • Research available funding opportunities and prepare grant proposals.
  • Facilitate language documentation projects including recording audio/video, transcription and/or translations.
  • Collaborate and work together as a team with the MN-S Culture and Language department to accomplish other duties and tasks when assigned.

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in education, linguistics or related discipline is preferred, however will consider a combination of skills and experience.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a similar role.
  • Experience working with Indigenous, including Métis, clients.
  • The ability to understand or speak the Michif Language would be considered an asset.

Knowledge and Skills:


  • Knowledge of Métis culture.
  • Knowledge of the Michif Language.
  • Knowledge of linguistics computer software (ELAN, FLEx and Audacity etc.)
  • Strong communication skills including speaking, writing, and active listening skills.
  • Strong computer skills (including Microsoft Word, Excel, database software, electronic communication tools such as Microsoft Outlook).
  • Strong timemanagement skills along with the ability to prioritize daily tasks, organizational skills, and effective decisionmaking abilities.
  • Willingness to work within a team environment.
  • Exceptional written and oral communications skills.
  • Excellent work attendance.
  • Sound problem solving and decisionmaking skills as well as attention to detail.
  • Interpersonal skills and an ability to demonstrate deescalation and conflict resolution in difficult situations.

Additional Requirements:


  • The position is based on a 37.5hour work week Monday through Friday and includes a comprehensive total rewards package.
  • A valid Saskatchewan driver's license and/or access to reliable transportation to our downtown location would be required.
