Responsibilities:

Your primary responsibilities as a Spatial Specialist include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare and evaluate information and technology proposals, requirements, and analysis and design documents including detailed specifications of data, information and software architectures.
  • Work on geospatial information systems with relational database management components using strongly developed analytical skills to research problems, conduct audits and deal with highly complex issues.
  • Support the management of corporate geographic data assets by developing knowledge of core data holdings.
  • Provide understanding and guidance by relating spatial data management best practices to corporate data standards, related policies and regulations.
  • Document geospatial data and data management processes.
  • Provide daytoday support of geospatial information initiatives, including unit and integration testing, documentation, installation, support and archival of project environments.
  • Meet with clients to discuss needs, use indepth knowledge of a specific business area or process to develop recommendations for improvement, identifying business requirements, assessing impact on users and testing new/modified systems while ensuring maximum return from geospatial technology.
  • Analyze business and Information Technology issues pertaining to the use of geospatial information and technology, and provide integration options, as appropriate.
  • Maintain an uptodate knowledge of both the current and the planned GIS platforms and development environments.

Key Qualifications:


  • University degree in in Surveying, Geomatics, Geography, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Extensive experience in in surveying, mapping, and geospatial data management, specifically in the area of cadastral fabric and data model, cadastral survey systems, and their relevance in land administration.
  • Extensive experience in providing consultation to divisional clients and understand their needs in cadastral fabric and property information to improve their operations.
  • Experience in policy compliance, best practices, standardized procedures, and established business rules related to geospatial data maintenance, specifically the maintenance of cadastral fabric and associated legal framework.

You must also have:


  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills, particularly in identifying data issues and proposing solutions.
  • Ability to maintain comprehensive documentation of data entry and quality control processes.
  • Ability to quickly understand new technologies and data environments
  • Interpersonal skills and an aptitude to work independently and collaboratively with others in a multidisciplinary team setting.
  • Business acumen to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with clients and vendors, representing strong customer service orientation.
  • Time management and estimation capabilities and the ability to perform several tasks and projects concurrently.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including days, afternoons, nights and weekends, as required.
  • Ability to travel across various office locations within the City of Toronto, as required.
