Position Purpose:

Reporting to the Supervisor Lines, this position is responsible for planning, leading, and organizing inspections daily duties. Provide training and perform electrical distribution inspection to ensure compliance with Alectra specifications, standards, policies, and design.

Coordinate and direct projects with external utilities, contractors, and internal departments to ensure projects are completed safely and on time.

The incumbent is responsible for leading and organizing the Inspectors and will also be responsible for performing Work Protection functions, assisting contract locators on problem locates, providing quality assurance checks on Alectra programs, and developing department documents relating to the inspections function.

The incumbent is also responsible for preparing all documentation required for each project.


Responsibilities:


  • Coordinates and plans the work of the inspections staff to ensure a safe working environment for staff and members of the public
  • Provide quality assurance inspections, safety checks and provide timely and accurate "As constructed mark up" drawings.
  • Inspect the distribution system and materials used to ensure compliance with current Alectra standards and criteria.
  • Assist Supervisor with ensuring inspectors and qualified contractors "As constructed " drawings are in compliance with Alectra standards, specifications and design.
  • Safely access energized transformers, switchgears and obtain holdoffs when required.
  • Organize and/or hold work protection permits for the isolation/deenergization of the electrical distribution plant for safe completion of work in accordance with the UWPC.
  • Prepares and completes work order documentation, timesheets and various reports as required.
  • Coordinates work with contractor and other work groups on a frequent basis.
  • Facilitate training for staff and contractors on the Alectra Construction Verification Program (CVP) and self inspection program.
  • Inspect maintenance work to ensure compliance with current Alectra standards, specifications, and best practices. Meet with inspectors and contractors on a frequent basis to help ensure consistency of work practices and procedures
  • Meet with contractors/design technicians to discuss nature of work and deviations from designs required to meet unforeseen field conditions and make informed decisions
  • Identify and approve changes in the field in consultation with the engineering department.
  • Train/assist contract locators on problem locates and ensure quality compliance.
  • Actively participate in incident/accident investigations.
  • Organize Work Protection for isolation/deenergization of electrical distribution plant.
  • Professionally manage customer inquiries and concerns.
  • Collect asset data and utilize Global Position Systems for updating data repositories.

Skills & Qualifications:


Education & Specialized Knowledge

  • Successful completion of Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent
  • Journeyperson Powerline Technician certificate or Journeyman Underground Power Table Technician Certificate
  • Cable locating certificate is an asset or willing to obtain within first year in the position
  • Must hold and maintain a valid class G driver's license
  • Certified in the Utility Safety Rules and Utility Work Protection Code
  • Requires working knowledge of the OHSA, O.Reg. 22/04, Alectra Construction Verification Program, and other safetyrelated regulations
  • Sound knowledge of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems
  • Knowledge of Ontario Common Ground Alliance (ORGCA) best practices, industry locate standards, and damage prevention measures
  • Advanced knowledge of ESA rules and regulations as applicable to the construction and maintenance of electrical distribution systems

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years' related experience
