As a leader in our branch, your role will be to inspire and cultivate our vision and cultural commitments while championing continuous improvement in your area of responsibility.
As a Refuse Collector II, you will operate a complex, fully hydraulic collection vehicle with a Gross Vehicle Weight rating of 14,000 to 16,000 kilograms.

As a Refuse Collector II, you will be responsible for the following:- Collect litter from park sites
- Empty containers at dog offleash areas
- Monitor litter containers and report damage or other observed problems to supervisor for resolution
- Perform maintenance, clean, and repair of litter baskets as required
- Monitor and document vehicle maintenance and repair needs
- Work safely and efficiently in accordance with the City of Edmonton Occupational Health and Safety Program
- Maintain a positive customer service attitude in the performance of all duties
- Keep records and perform other related duties as required, i.e., horticultural duties, snow removal, and pruning
- Other related duties as required
Qualifications:
- Completion of Grade 1
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
- Ability to perform heavy, strenuous, and agilityintensive labour for extended periods of time and under allweather conditions
- Knowledge of appropriate material handling practices to avoid skin and eye contamination, cuts, slipping, and associated mishaps
- Ability to skillfully drive a garbage collection vehicle—a 16 cubic yard Haul All (garbage packer)—and observe all safety precautions and vehicle handling techniques
- Ability to read and interpret route maps, dispatch notices, and other relevant materials
- Ability to deal with the public during pickup of refuse and to resolve complaints of a minor nature
- Ability to work alone with little or no supervision
- Conduct work in a manner that complies with the requirements set out in the City's Environmental Management System (EMS)
