As a Refuse Collector II, you will operate a complex, fully hydraulic collection vehicle with a Gross Vehicle Weight rating of 14,000 to 16,000 kilograms.

As a Refuse Collector II, you will be responsible for the following:

Collect litter from park sites
Empty containers at dog offleash areas
Monitor litter containers and report damage or other observed problems to supervisor for resolution
Perform maintenance, clean, and repair of litter baskets as required
Monitor and document vehicle maintenance and repair needs
Work safely and efficiently in accordance with the City of Edmonton Occupational Health and Safety Program
Maintain a positive customer service attitude in the performance of all duties
Keep records and perform other related duties as required, i.e., horticultural duties, snow removal, and pruning
Other related duties as required

Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 1
Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
Ability to perform heavy, strenuous, and agilityintensive labour for extended periods of time and under allweather conditions
Knowledge of appropriate material handling practices to avoid skin and eye contamination, cuts, slipping, and associated mishaps
Ability to skillfully drive a garbage collection vehicle—a 16 cubic yard Haul All (garbage packer)—and observe all safety precautions and vehicle handling techniques
Ability to read and interpret route maps, dispatch notices, and other relevant materials
Ability to deal with the public during pickup of refuse and to resolve complaints of a minor nature
Ability to work alone with little or no supervision
Conduct work in a manner that complies with the requirements set out in the City's Environmental Management System (EMS)
