Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting directly to the Manager, Communications, Faculty of Engineering and Design and working in close collaboration with the Communications Assistant and Events Administrator, the Digital Content and Communications Specialist is responsible for:

  • Faculty-based event marketing and communication; conceptualizing and development of marketing and communications plans and execution of tactics to promote and support Faculty events and activities.
  • Faculty's social media platforms including maintaining a content strategy and digital media schedule in order to maintain and expand the Faculty's social media presence and engagement; developing and executing strategies to boost followers across all platforms.
  • Managing and producing content which will communicate and promote the Faculty's students, faculty, and achievements to internal and external stakeholder and for use in the Faculty and/or University's print and digital publications and online presence.


It is essential that all communications and marketing materials be produced with the highest standards and convey consistent messaging, accuracy of information, quality of presentation and a common visual identity as they reflect the University and Faculty's reputation to its internal and external stakeholders.

The unique obligations of the Faculty of Engineering and Design to professional and licensing bodies governing the professional practice and licensing requirements in the fields of Engineering and Design must be accurately and consistently incorporated in all communications and marketing materials.


Qualifications:


The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:

  • Proven ability to develop and implement innovative marketing and communications plans is required;
  • Excellent knowledge of and expertise in the use of social media platforms (current and emerging) is required;
  • Proven ability to work successfully under pressure including prioritizing workload, setting priorities, meeting deadlines with mínimal supervision;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required including proven ability to exercise judgement, tact, diplomacy and discretion;
  • Excellent communication skills are required;
  • Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills are required;
  • English language fluency is required;
  • Experience in photography and videography and editing photos and videos is required;
  • Experience in digital layout and/or graphic design is highly desired;
  • Strong knowledge of the University's culture and institutional goals and objectives is highly desired.

Education and Experience:

The above is normally acquired through the completion of:

  • Four-year honours university degree in Journalism, Communications or related field.
  • Five years of related work experience in marketing, public relations and communications or journalism.
  • Experience in creating, writing, editing and producing marketing and communications material required to support events and activities
  • Specific experience in developing content, monitoring and analyzing effectiveness of webbased communication vehicles and social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Tik Tok, and Snapchat is required
