Location

Position Overview
This position is responsible for the operation of municipal swimming pools.

With the goal of encouraging participation in an active lifestyle and the ability to swim and self-rescue in water, this position is also responsible for developing the service plan for aquatics programs.


Responsibilities

This position is responsible for:

  • Acting as the City's Pool Operator, in accordance with the Health Protection and Promotion Act of Ontario for the safe Operation of Public Pools.
  • Developing a framework of community responsive aquatics programs by assessing community needs and trends and evaluating program delivery methods. This position works with facilities that have a mix of 50% user groups and 50% direct programs.
  • Recruiting, training, motivating, supervising and evaluating staff.
  • Ensuring that emergency and safety procedures are current, communicated and practiced to protect staff, program providers, vulnerable populations and customers using programs or facilities. Liaise with external agencies and governing bodies to ensure that the City is meeting regulations and obligations.
  • Developing, nurturing and administering strategic alliances and partnerships to support program delivery, increase participation and maximize revenue in facilities.
  • Overseeing the following processes: allocation of space, program registration, membership registration, facility rentals and permits.
  • Responding to public, staff and elected officials' inquiries and facilitating resolutions to complex issues.
  • Developing and evaluating performance measures to meet business and customer needs.
  • Coordinating, monitoring and developing mitigation strategies for current budgets, maximizing revenue within assigned facilities.
  • Preparing reports for Council approval and participating in Committee and Council meetings as required.

Requirements:

You have a community college diploma or university degree in recreation or a related field.

You hold current certifications in Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard, Standard First Aid with CPR C, Airway Management, Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor and Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor, Lifesaving Society Emergency First Aid Instructor.

HIGH FIVE - Principles of Healthy Child Development certification. You also have three to five years of experience in a variety of aquatic program areas and age groups.

Experience in the following areas is essential:

  • Leading and inspiring a large team made up of part time and full time staff

  • Goal setting and KPIs
  • Driving sales and increasing participation
  • Communication
This position may require occasional travel between sites and/or City facilities. Transportation is not provided.
