Responsibilities:
- Oversee Building Science personnel and responsibility for group production and ensuring timelines and billing needs are met
- Oversee field review/testing and data collection, design, report and specification preparation and contract administration; work may include but is not limited to the following:
- Collect field data and prepare Reserve Fund Studies and Capital Expenditure Plan Reports
- Perform field investigation work and the diagnosis of building problems required to design exterior envelope remediation including exterior wall, fenestration, roof and/or structural remediation
- Perform leak investigations of all aspects of building envelope, roofs, walls, windows and foundations
- Performing condition assessments of multiresidential, commercial and institutional facilities
- Collect field data required for the preparation of repair specifications, drawings and tendering
- Conduct onsite quality control and adherence to prepared specifications
- Provide project management and related contract administration
- Liaise with clients, contractors and manufacturers
- Provide technical support, guidance and review of completed work prior to delivery to the client (Branch Manager or C of A must conduct final review of work to be delivered to the client); coordinate with other engineers for peer reviews and design guidance
- Promote team building, quality, public relations, enthusiasm, ethics, initiative and reliability from employees
- Provide periodic input to the sales and marketing plan of the department; work with Business Development Managers to identify and implement and effective plan
- Identify and regularly consult with various clients/organizations of upcoming projects where a relationship has been established
- Prepare, review (with department head/project manager) and present department specific proposals; follow up on prepared proposals, update proposal log and identify reasons for success/failure
- Make contributions to the company knowledge base and procedural practices
- Prepare proposals and quotations where required to generate sales
- Preparation of specifications and design as required on an as needed basis; review shop drawings
- Oversee project administration and assist with design management of engineering projects of IRC; provide construction contract administration
- Perform field investigation work and the diagnosis of building problems required to design exterior envelope remediation including exterior wall, fenestration, roof and/or structural remediation
- Assist in performing leak investigations of all aspects of building envelope, roofs, walls, windows and foundations
Duties will Include:
- Work setting in both the office or field environment
- Travel within the Greater Toronto Area Region
- Measuring of building dimensions and quantifying on site and from drawings
- Interpretation and hand drawing of insitu construction details
- Working at heights including accessing buildings by ladders, swing stages and mechanical lifts
- Typical duties associated with working in a professional engineering office
- Coordinate all input for time billing and job costing
- Other tasks may be required to ensure timely completion of deadlines
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Completion of a degree in an engineering or technology program with a focus on Building Science, Architectural, or Civil / Structural Engineering
- Knowledge and experience with construction contracts, contract administration, site reviews, and chairing site meetings
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge in areas related to building science such as thermodynamics, heat transfer and psychometrics
- Understanding of building construction including methods, materials and systems is required
- Exceptional attention to detail, specifically in accuracy of calculations and completeness of data collection and notation
- Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
- Selfmotivating and multitasking ability
- Able to work individually and in a team setting
