Position Summary:


Reporting to the Manager, Academic Programs, the incumbent will develop, administer and promote best practices related to graduate education (including programs, policies and regulations).

Oversee the administrative process related to policy and program review. Participate in the development and implementation of policies and new initiatives. Make recommendations for policy and program updates to enhance graduate education at McGill. Undertake special projects pertaining to graduate courses, programs and graduate education as a whole at McGill.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance and advice to the University community for the development and implementation of graduate courses, programs, and other academic initiatives. Use professional expertise to provide detailed feedback and make recommendations.
  • Organize and streamline unit processes regarding information management. Establish a structure for tracking progress along the program/policy approval pathway. Ensure relevant information is stored and organized in a secure, accessible manner.
  • Organize and participate in meetings. Record detailed minutes, provide recommendations and ensure followup and implementation of agreed decisions.
  • In collaboration with Analysis, Planning and Budget (APB), design, conduct, analyze and report on surveys about graduate education at McGill. Ensure clear and concise transmission of information in an easytouse format.
  • Using data from graduate outcomes surveys, formulate recommendations for graduate units to ensure their programs meet the evolving needs of the graduate community. Benchmark McGill graduate education initiatives against those of our peers. Prepare reports.
  • Stay informed about academic debates, trends and new developments regarding graduate education and program development in order to inform decisionmaking at the senior administration level.
  • Foster relationships with other units and external organizations. Liaise with government agencies to ensure McGill program proposals and other academic initiatives receive prompt attention and approval. Represent GPS at internal and external meetings or committees regarding graduate education.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

  • Graduate degree an asset.
  • Interest in and understanding of the structure of the academic milieu; experience in a university and academic work setting an asset (particularly as it relates to graduate education).
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask while establishing priorities and maintaining flexibility to meet tight and sometimes competing deadlines. Meticulous and efficient with proven attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative. Proven ability to creatively solve problems and demonstrate "outofthebox" thinking. Ability to work with abstract, broad, intangible concepts and flush out concrete action plans.
  • Proven ability to conduct indepth research, analyze and synthesize critical information.
  • Strong relationship building skills and ability to develop and nurture partnerships.
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to transmit and receive information clearly, appropriately and efficiently.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure on multiple projects and to prioritize and meet strict deadlines with limited supervision.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office Suite skills including the ability to produce professional reports and presentations.
  • Bilingual English and French.
  • Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an Englishlanguage university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level # 4 on a scale of 04
