About the role

The Assistant Events Coordinator role is an exceptional opportunity for an organized and creative individual to contribute to the success of programming and events on Granville Island.

You will help plan and coordinate a diverse range of events and programming in outdoor public spaces and in Granville Island venues, while providing administrative support to the Public Affairs & Programming department.

The work schedule will require a flexible work week that includes weekends and shift work.


What you'll do:


  • Assist the Coordinator, Cultural Programming & Events, with the production of yearround festivals, programming and events taking place on Granville Island, such as the Vancouver International Children's Festival, Indian Summer Festival, BC Culture Days, Vancouver International Fringe Festival, Latin American Heritage Month, and Winter Solstice.
  • Communicate with Granville Island staff, tenants, security, traffic control and event participants to provide information and ensure smooth execution.
  • Liaise with performers, crew and external cultural organizers, procurement of supplies and equipment, site setup and strike, and administrative support.
  • Help develop new programming that enhances the festival culture and creates opportunities for the public to experience arts and culture yearround, both daytime and evenings.
  • Perform administrative duties associated with producing the events, such as procurement, filing, preparing performer agreements for approval and execution, and performer coordination.
  • Provide administrative support for grant development in relation to the Cultural Partner Program.

What you should have:


  • Postsecondary education in Event Management, Planning, Performing Arts or related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience in event organization.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to work on multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work independently, simultaneously coordinating the "big picture", while attending to details.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written).

It would be great if you also had:

  • Knowledge of Granville Island programming, outdoor event production, grant development and administration.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Knowledge of both official languages (French & English).
