Position Description


Reporting to the Production Manager, the Operations Supervisor is responsible for creating a zero-harm environment while ensuring that all Health, Safety and Plant Policies are enforced.

This position would oversee the day-to-day production operations of the plant including directly supervising operations and maintenance hourly (union) employees.

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure onsite operations are conducted in accordance with corporate policies and procedures, within permit conditions with a significant focus on H&S.
  • Supervise daily operations and provide leadership to union employees.
  • Lead the training & development initiatives for union employees.
  • Ensure a focused approach towards H&S safety talks, observations, audits, reporting etc.
  • Enforce the policies laid out by the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Maintain and implement facility standard operating procedures (SOP's).
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives throughout the plant.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance department to identify and lead repair work whilst keeping downtime at a minimum.
  • Take a leading role in managing housekeeping activities in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise and inspect repairs carried out by Maintenance to ensure the quality of work being performed exceeds that required for continuous operation.
  • Work with Operations and H&S to report all incidents, safety infractions, noncompliance issues and participate in the investigation and development of corrective actions
  • Monitor and make recommendations aimed at improving the Safety performance.
  • Support the site's Environmental Management System (EMS) and our Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Program
  • Ensure all visitors to the site (Contractors, brokers, etc.) are complying with site and corporate safety policies
  • Responsible to Coach & Council employees regarding issues
  • Performance, H&S, Attendance etc.
  • Ensure all required reporting
  • Production, H&S etc. is accomplished in a timely manner.
  • Lead training of new unionized employees and provide evaluation of skillset, documentation of training
Experience & Education

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for collaboration with crossfunctional teams
  • Postsecondary education in a Technical, Environmental or Chemical program is an asset.
  • Prior work experience in a foundry environment is an asset.
  • Minimum of 35 years in a supervisory capacity is preferred.
  • Prior experience in a large industrial setting is preferred.
  • Strong technical and mechanical skills are required
  • Strong understanding of industrial processes is required
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Ceridian
  • Proven organization, time management and problemsolving skills
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills and competencies.
Working Conditions

  • The Operations Supervisor will work out of the Terrapure BR facility in Mississauga.
  • Use of PPE (Powered Air Purifying Respirator, Safety Boots etc.) is compulsory.
  • Ability to work in conditions that may be dusty and extreme heat.
  • This position would join 6 other supervisors in an alternating day/night/afternoon shift as required. The alternating shift times include one week from 7am 3pm, one week from 11pm 7am, and one week from 3pm11pm.
  • Ability to work anywhere from five (5) to six (6) days per week, as required.
