Junior Analyst (Co-op Student), Fund Management

CMLS Asset Management, the investment management arm of the CMLS Group, is looking for a motivated self-starter to join our Toronto team as a Junior Analyst (Co-op student) this summer from May 2023 until August 2023.

Alternative investments, particularly real estate, have grown in popularity with both institutional and retail investors as a provider of excess return, low volatility and diversification to well-balanced investment portfolios.

Learn about our industry while gaining exposure to both fundraising and investment analysis in support of the CMLS Asset Management team.

About the Role:

Supporting the Director, National Accounts and Investment Sales, in growing the exposure of the CMLS Mortgage Fund among the Canadian investment community
Maintaining and improving company databases pertaining to portfolio management, market statistics, fund administration and investor relationship management
Supporting the Manager, Investments, in conducting due diligence and analysis of potential new investments for the CMLS Mortgage Fund and other CMLS Asset Management commercial mortgage subadvisory mandates. Due diligence includes evaluation of borrower credit, location, quality and value of underlying collateral (including accompanying the team on site visits when time permits)
Fund reporting monthly fund facts, quarterly reporting, ad hoc marketing material, maintenance of offering documents
Assisting the team in preparing for a commercial mortgagebacked securities (CMBS) transaction, undertaken as part of a commercial mortgage investment strategy delivered on behalf of a core investor client
Staying current with market information and commercial and single family residential mortgage market trends
Performing other duties in keeping with the purpose and accountabilities of the job, such as preparing reports, assisting with compliancerelated tasks and completing department projects as assigned

This role is for you if you have:

You are a 3rd or 4th year university/post-secondary student
You have a keen interest in working in the investment management industry, particular in real estate and/or alternative investment products
You have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and are able to work well independently as well as within a team environment
You have experience creating and delivering business presentations and strong technical writing skills
You are very resultsdriven and possess strong organizational skills with a high attention to detail
You take ownership of your work and demonstrate a high degree of accountability and commitment at all times
You are an intermediate to advanced level user of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint)
