The City of Port Coquitlam's Recreation Department is committed to providing inclusive and engaging arts experiences for all members of our community.

We are looking for an experienced professional for the role of Recreation Specialist who will act as a key member of the Arts & Culture leadership team.

The successful applicant will be responsible for leading the public art selection process, as well as contracting and overseeing the work of professional artists.

Supervision including guidance and mentoring of staff and volunteers is required. This position requires some weekend and evening work supervising arts facilities and arts programs, including Artist-in-Residence workshops and exhibitions.

Duties are performed under the general direction of the Arts & Culture Coordinator and/or Manager of Cultural Development & Community Services.


Some of the key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Ensures that industry standards are adhered to with respect to public art procurement, processes and maintenance
  • Supervises and mentors emerging and established professional artists delivering programs for the community
  • Performs a variety of administrative work with supervisory responsibility, including designing, planning, organizing and promoting arts programs, activities, events and services
  • Trains and supervises staff, instructors, and volunteers
  • Drafts a variety of reports and maintains records related to the work
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience designing, planning, scheduling, implementing, promoting and evaluating progressive Art and Culture educational and public art programs
  • Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia
  • Class
  • Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by education and experience satisfying the following:
  • Post-Secondary Degree in Fine Arts or a specialized discipline related to the arts, three (3) years full-time equivalent experience in the area of assignment, and a minimum of two (2) years supervisory experience
Or

  • Twoyear (2) diploma in Fine Arts or a specialized discipline related to the arts, five (5) years fulltime equivalent experience in the area of assignment, and a minimum of two (2) years supervisory experience
