RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:


Wellington Catholic District School Board has an opportunity for a Social Worker assigned to the Mental Health Clinician (MHC) team.

Supervised by the Mental Health Lead and under the authority of the Superintendent of Education, MHCs provide specialized treatment services for students with significant mental health challenges.


The MHC Social Worker will provide individual and group interventions (in person and virtually) to students in elementary and secondary who are struggling with significant social, emotional, or mental health challenges., that are impacting their ability to function in school.

The MHC assignment is itinerant, potentially seeing students from any school within the Board's district.


In addition, all Social Workers provide tragic response/crisis intervention support to schools, participate in staff capacity building by providing professional development for staff, support student mental health promotion activities, and assume other duties as assigned by supervisor.


Indigenous Student Mental Health Focus:


  • Provide group based mental health interventions for Indigenous and Non-Indigenous students in Elementary and Secondary
  • Provide individual and group counselling, therapeutic interventions and support for First Nation, Métis and Inuit Students
  • Respond to traumatic events and provide crisis support for Indigenous and Non-Indigenous students
  • Collaborate with school teams, system support staff, community agencies and parent(s)/ caregiver(s) to support Indigenous student mental health needs
  • Attend and actively participate in team meetings, case review and case conferences as needed
  • Evaluate student and family progress on an ongoing basis and adjust mental health intervention plan as necessary
  • Consult with school personnel and provide recommendations on systemic barriers impacting Indigenous students' learning and their wellbeing
  • Develop and implement effective professional learning for school staff in the areas of social emotional issues and mental health through an Indigenous lens
  • Build and maintain relationships with local Indigenous community partners
  • Regular travel across Wellington Catholic District School Board is required
  • Other duties as assigned by the Manager of Mental Health Services and the Superintendent of Education

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:


  • A Master of Social Work degree with registration in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers is required.
  • Graduate training in clinical interviewing and evidenceinformed interventions with children and youth is required.
  • Experience providing various mental health treatment modalities (CBT, Motivational Interviewing, DBT strategies, etc.,) to children and youth.
  • Three years of experience working with children and youth with social, emotional, behavioural, and/or mental health challenges is an asset.
  • Experience assessing social, emotional, behavioural, or mental health challenges would be an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other professionals is required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skill is required.
  • Experience working in educational settings is required.
  • Skills in motivational interviewing, collaborative problemsolving, conflict resolution, and/or restorative justice practices would be an asset.
  • Experience leading inservice training or making public presentations would be an asset.
