As an Underwriter you will be responsible for working within authority limits on assignments under broad management direction.

This position is a development role, and your key responsibilities will involve underwriting business in line with the business plan; monitoring aggregate exposure within agreed limits; monitoring premium income to ensure it remains within agreed limits; maintaining awareness of all claims advised; building and maintaining relationships with brokers and clients; supporting the design and structure of risks; identifying and driving new product development opportunities.

What will your essential responsibilities include?

  • Underwrite and service a renewal book and produce new business in accordance with business unit goals.
  • Develop and manage underwriting strategies for both renewals and targets within your portfolio of accounts.
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment in the analysis and evaluation of risk.
  • Participate in roundtable discussions on risk assessment.
  • Build and enhance relationships with brokers and clients and identify and establish new distribution relationships.
  • Maintain expertise with the products, services, priorities, and target markets to more effectively enable clients to uncover hidden risks.
  • Maintain compliance with all internal and external underwriting guidelines and legal requirements.
  • Maintain awareness of all claims advised while supporting and providing input on settlement of claims.
  • Develop your level of technical knowledge and skills including product and industry.
  • This position can sit in any of our Canadian locations
  • Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, or Montreal.
You will report to the Senior Underwriter, Fine Art & Specie.

We're looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

  • Moderate experience in the relevant class of business or prior knowledge of industries or insurance.
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent).
  • Possess knowledge and skills associated with the Fine Art and Specie product & industry.
  • You should possess outstanding analytical and problemsolving skills as well as robust sales and marketing abilities.
  • Outstanding organizational, timemanagement and multitasking skills combined with a excellent work ethic.
  • Ability to develop and understand business processes, strategy and planning.
  • Knowledge of functionality of systems.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to respond to a changing environment with flexibility and innovation.
  • Excellent customer service and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to lead in accordance with AXA XL Core Values and Culture.
