As an Underwriter you will be responsible for working within authority limits on assignments under broad management direction.

This position is a development role, and your key responsibilities will involve underwriting business in line with the business plan; monitoring aggregate exposure within agreed limits; monitoring premium income to ensure it remains within agreed limits; maintaining awareness of all claims advised; building and maintaining relationships with brokers and clients; supporting the design and structure of risks; identifying and driving new product development opportunities.

What will your essential responsibilities include?

Underwrite and service a renewal book and produce new business in accordance with business unit goals.
Develop and manage underwriting strategies for both renewals and targets within your portfolio of accounts.
Exercise discretion and independent judgment in the analysis and evaluation of risk.
Participate in roundtable discussions on risk assessment.
Build and enhance relationships with brokers and clients and identify and establish new distribution relationships.
Maintain expertise with the products, services, priorities, and target markets to more effectively enable clients to uncover hidden risks.
Maintain compliance with all internal and external underwriting guidelines and legal requirements.
Maintain awareness of all claims advised while supporting and providing input on settlement of claims.
Develop your level of technical knowledge and skills including product and industry.
This position can sit in any of our Canadian locations
Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, or Montreal.

You will report to the Senior Underwriter, Fine Art & Specie.

We're looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

Moderate experience in the relevant class of business or prior knowledge of industries or insurance.
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent).
Possess knowledge and skills associated with the Fine Art and Specie product & industry.
You should possess outstanding analytical and problemsolving skills as well as robust sales and marketing abilities.
Outstanding organizational, timemanagement and multitasking skills combined with a excellent work ethic.
Ability to develop and understand business processes, strategy and planning.
Knowledge of functionality of systems.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to respond to a changing environment with flexibility and innovation.
Excellent customer service and negotiation skills.
Ability to lead in accordance with AXA XL Core Values and Culture.
